Hello from Canterbury, in New Zealand

My first error yesterday; forgetting to clip the auto trans cooler hose back on and dropped 4L all over my driveway before my teenager says, "Jesus Dad, friggin' drunk again?"

Could it be this simple? Coolant issues

Why don't you just replace the o-rings on the expansion tank cap? 25mmIDx4mm.

    oem or aftermarket

...and the clearance between the genuine hose to other components in the engine bay astounds me!

    D2 Td5 Engine Revs Surging/Hunting 75-125rpm

Okay, thanks. I agree with your arg. ;) Anyways, just replaced my coolant hose and removed the ECU to check red plug. Totally dry... I notice that the loom runs down from the black plug to a low point, then back up to the red plug. So I think the issue of oil at the red plug is somewhat...

    D2 Td5 Engine Revs Surging/Hunting 75-125rpm

WhaaaaT? Reeally...? What is the issue here? Can I not seal it up some way?

    oem or aftermarket

Blew my top hose last night, right beside the clamp before it enters the head. Bought a new LR genuine part today for NZ$229.50 resisting the NZ$140 on ebay. What surprised me was the stiffness and heavier wall thickness of the genuine one compared to the damaged one. Glad I didn't get the...

    D2 Td5 Engine Revs Surging/Hunting 75-125rpm

Bit of oil in the (upper?) black plug going to the loom in the head. Clean it out, & now no probs. Thanks.

    D2 Td5 Engine Revs Surging/Hunting 75-125rpm

OK... had a go today & confirm that it does it in both cruise & driver control. Seems to be something with the torque-converter lockup, which comes in at 85kph. Still annoying though...

    D2 Td5 Engine Revs Surging/Hunting 75-125rpm

I have had a 2001 Disco2 Td5 since June 2014, and ever since I completely flushed all oils and de-EGR, the rev-counter shows the vehicle hunting when between 95-105kph. I can even feel the engine slightly hunting/surging. It's not a major, its just annoying. But get this, don't be rude, it...

    Discovery wont unlock

A D2 requires you to use the fob to unlock each time, whether you locked with the fob or just the key. When my fob didn't unlock the other day, it would key-unlock, but that would set the alarm off. So, I had to undertake a fairly long walk to buy a battery, not thinking in that the fob will...

Mudflap extensions - a tinkering idea

Thiscis a great idea. Looking for a similar answer to reducing road dust being collected on the back & around the bumper-to-door area...

New Steering Wheel fitted - with a guide

The wheels looks off-centre, a feature I prefer. And the centre looks lower - I'm guessing it doesn't obstruct the dash view as much... looks cool! :)

    Right. Gauges... on the hunt.

    Greg's TD5 DII project

Interestingly, in the early 90's (sorry) Wheels Australia ran a test that showed that ABS was no advantage once the tyres were at or past half-worn. You would hope that ABS has improved since then, but I don't know how it could. With my last car (Subaru) I disconnected the ABS. I feel I am...

    Waterless Coolent?

In the past...? SAE grades are set at 100(212) running temperatures? 84 & 74 is way too low... this confuses the **** out of me - it can't be right... What is "the past"...?

    TD5 Oil Change question

My comment really applies to what I feel is an over-requirement of changing your fuel filter at the same time as your oils/oil filter. It not so much a 'quality of fuel' scenario - it's just that in many environments, condensation forms in the supply tank and then you pump into your car. But...

    Need a ####ing winch!!!

Why don't you try this? You'll have to ship it from NZ but seems cheapas to me... Defender 110 Trail max winch (9500 lb) & bumper | Trade Me :monitor_punch:

    TD5 Oil Change question

The fuel filter is unrelated, and won't need changing anywhere as often as the engine counterparts. [I'm still laughing at the universal tractor oil comment]...

    Wet headlining

I had the same issue with my Td5, and blamed the windscreen installer. Fate had it that it broke 3 weeks later, so when I had it re-done, I remained and inspected the area before the new screen went in. What I found is the roof panel does not completely seal into the gutter/front section, and...

    Oil grade? And how much?

I'd never use a mineral. Dino oils require viscosity improvers to provide the multi-grade (5W-30, etc.). Over time, your additive package wears out, including the VI's, and your oil resembles more of a straight SAE30 than a multigrade. Synthetics don't have VI's... they don't need them. I'm...
