Hi all, we just received a 2001 Discovery, we locked the doors with the remote and when we returned 20 minutes later the remote would not unlock the vehicle. We tried the door key and it will turn in the cylinder but will not unlock the vehicle. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

But then u don't need a functioning fob battery if you unlocking manually with the key in the lock barrel.
But as D2 locks are electric I believe, u do need a functioning vehicle battery I would assume D2s have an override function for this particular issue, if that is the issue, how do u open the vehicle.
Or perhaps the key barrel due to lack of use has seized, that's why it won't unlock with the key much like my D1 as I have always use the remote.

Yes the key wont disable the immobiliser

Yes you can on D1, use the drivers door for full unlocking via central locking, or on their own the front passengers door or tailgate. All the "code" does is remobilise the engine but only when fitted with a passive system.

On the D1 the key should open the locks, alarm would go off without the code being put in, but doors will open,
my fob doesn't work so have to use the key on the passenger side as previous owner snapped the fecker.
And they can sod off if I'm paying £500 for 4 barrels&keys

Much easer than to just repair or replace the fob and have remote central locking is it not, I never use the key other than for starting.

TBH D, i never thought about that way round, i can still use the half broken key for the pax door.

or this.There's a bit more to it but u get the idea and used only on 1996MY D1s and onwards and no indicators or horns involved D2s have something similar.
2. Enter the FIRST digit of
the code.
If the first digit is 4,
turn the key (anti-clockwise)
to the UNLOCK position 4
times. Ensure the key is
FULLY returned to the centre position after
each turn of the key.
3. Enter the SECOND digit of
the code.
If the second digit is
3, turn the key to the LOCK
position 3 times. Remember;
the key must be FULLY
returned to the centre position after each turn
of the key.
4. Enter the THIRD digit of
the code.
If the third digit is
2, turn the key to the UNLOCK
position twice, ensuring that
the key is FULLY returned to
the centre position after each turn of the key.
5. Enter the FOURTH digit of
the code.
If the fourth digit is
1, turn the key to the LOCK
position once. Ensure the key
is FULLY returned to the
centre position after the key has been turned.
6. FINALLY,
turn the key to
the UNLOCK position once
more to disarm the alarm and
re-mobilise the engine. If the
code has been entered
successfully, the anti-theft alarm indicator
light on the instrument panel will extinguish.

A D2 requires you to use the fob to unlock each time, whether you locked with the fob or just the key. When my fob didn't unlock the other day, it would key-unlock, but that would set the alarm off. So, I had to undertake a fairly long walk to buy a battery, not thinking in that the fob will still lock, and I just re-locked the vehicle.
When I pulled the fob apart, I found the micro-switch on the PCB board for the unlock button had broken off. It was then easy - I just shorted out the two connections and the car unlocked.
I stole a micro-switch from a Subaru fob, soldered it back on... and we're all good.
I haven't got into the 4-digit code yet...

Well when new its included on a key card along with the key number obviously, locking-wheel nut ID and the radio code.
The key card slots into a pocket in your owner hand book, so that's the first place to look, failing that its a trip to your main LR dealers service dept and ask them to look for the code is on the vehicles data base, it my not be there but usually is.
Tip: Take some vehicle/owner ID with you just in case it required
Does the fob affect the flashing led on the dash? If it does then I would be looking at the usual water in the fusebox problem. You should be able to unlock the drivers door with the key even if it won't turn off the alarm and immobiliser.
I had this problem and had to open the door with the key and use the fob to turn the alarm and immobiliser off until I found what was wrong.
Mind you, its not funny when the alarm goes off on the motorway and the car locks you in and you can't get out.
