Well, I was getting a bit sick of the 'large' wheel on my disco, so have been searching about what I can do to sort it, and found that the MG ZS wheel fits. Then started to look a bit more and found the MGF wheel, which has a nicer grip for your thumbs and is full leather.
So after searching on ebay I came across this for less than £20.00 delivered...
The keen eyed will notice the MG badge right in the middle...so the way around this was to buy a universal alloy wheel centre....
Then it was a case of cutting out the MG badge....and removing the airbag...
and inserting the wheel centre...
Now I am just deciding what sort of badge to put on it - thinking along the lines of the transformers theme I have, so probably an Autobot head
Now fitting it was a bit of a headache at first, esp to use the wiring rotary coupler, as the back of the original wheel is sunken for this fit....
and the MG one had a lot of metal....
So after a lot of grinding back and placing a spacer on the steering part on the disco I was finally done.
Then it was a case of just wiring up the horn buttons, so I drilled a small hole into the casing for the earth and then wired the live to the existing loom and jobs done
Went from this...
To this...
Much better.
Admittedly I no longer have cruise control, but I never used it anyway (after spending a while fixing it when I bought her!) She is an off roader now, not a motorway cruiser
And whilst I was on sprucing up the interior, I changed the rotten old leather gaiters for nice new suede ones with blue stitching....
Not a bad days work, if I do say so myself.
