Hi all. Thought you might want to see the mudflap extensions I knocked up in the shed. These stop some of the spray from the front wheels getting to the top of the fuel tank and chassis on the 90. I used 3mm rubber matting, easy to cut with scissors or a sharp knife. Fixed using the inner arch fixing screw points and the mudflap bolts. This is the first one, the second had nice radiussed corners, making it look almost "shop bought". I'm going to make more, to protect the fuel filler area from spray off the rear wheels.

I was also going to make something to cover the filler pipes as my last filler rotted through, but I couldn't think how. Unless you cut a piece, then drill holes so cable ties can go around the S shaped thing that holds the side panel taught...hmm.

Did similar to my 1990 90 twenty two years ago,with extensions at the rear covering crossmember and one for the back of the fuel tank as well as one's like james's over outriggers.It's a working farm landy and with the extra flaps and a good dose of oil inside and out every year it's still has original rear crossmember,footwells and out outriggers and has only needed the odd small patch of weld.[ends of outriggers] So if you intend to hang onto your landy I fully recommend this mod.

The ones at the front def make a difference, there is mud all up the sides, but the underneath is still brand new and clean.
 
If you're thinking of doing this, I can recommend floormats.co.uk for 4mm plain rubber matting. I found it to be just the right mix of rigidity/flex, and cuts easily with a stanley knife or kitchen scissors (don't tell the wife).
 
I was lucky to get hold some wing mat rolls from the local RAF station when it closed [used to protect the wing surface during servicing] must be good stuff as still the same ones on landy now.
 
Here we go - this is the drivers side, looking towards the fuel tank. Not perfect by any means, could do with being a few cm wider at the top, and the zip ties at the bottom need to be repositioned a bit. It will prevent spray hitting the filler and tank though.

Did mine much the same zeapod, but did not fix the bottom I just left it loose after all it is a mud flap,lol
 
Yes have done something similar to mine aft the front but with old flexible plastic display boards, but seeing this has motivated me to do the rear.

When I did my Defender rebuild, before I had my inner wings re-galvanised I welded on extensions so now the metal comes down far enough to reduce water/muck sprayed onto the footwell and outrigger.

Great addition and looked stock as it was welded in and ground flat.
 
Thiscis a great idea. Looking for a similar answer to reducing road dust being collected on the back & around the bumper-to-door area...
