    td5 whining in 5th

    My Td5 did this on a holiday to France, and 50 miles from Calais the gearbox gave up. Layshaft bearings had failed and I lost all drive except 4th (direct drive) with which I managed to limp it home to Dover.

    The rod length shouldn't be an issue, you don't need to touch the clutch slave when you fit a 200. It could have become dislodged or misaligned during the fitting of the engine though. It may be a case of taking the engine back out and checking the clutch is all set up properly.

    Sounds like the clutch isn't disengaging properly. Did you fit a new clutch kit when you put the 200 in? Does the clutch pedal still feel like it did with the 19j?

    Yup, when I first rode in it, the power and noise was so immense that I went partially blind. Although that might have had something to do with the injectors leaking diesel straight onto the exhaust manifold :rolleyes: And RE: Cummins one-oh-ones, I'm not sure yet whether to build ultimate...

    They wouldn't have to be very far apart, in theory you could make the prop just long enough for the boxes to clear eachother properly. But yes I take your point... would be interesting to take some measurements and see what you'd end up with.

    I'm looking at a 101 6BT conversion... do you think looking at a remotely mounted LT230 would be worthwhile? It gets around a lot of the machining work. The only issue would be rear prop length. How much rear prop do you have with the LT230 bolted to the ZF?

    You guys were correct - I had the plate oriented the wrong way. Seems the holes are positioned in such a way that it will only bolt on ONE way! ... Does make you wonder what the engineers at Leyland were thinking when they decided that would be a good idea :rolleyes:

    Stainless steel bolts aren't as strong as 8.8 grade bolts, and 8.8 grade bolts aren't as strong as carrots. I'd just put in some good quality 8.8 zinc plated ones.

    Td5 sudden rattle and power loss.
