Hi,

I bought a 200tdi unit from a Defender and used it to upgrade my 19J TD engine in my 89 pick up.

Engine change was seamless as the unit was a defender lump so slotted in, it runs up fine, starts first turn of the key but the gearbox is playing silly buggers.

I didn't change anything on the LT77 unit, just obviously it is now attached to the 200tdi unit.

Cant think why I can only slip the gears into 5th and crunch it in to reverse but no election of 1,2,3 or 4??

All linkages on the transfer box are clean an three distinct positions so no issue in that area hopefully.

Any ideas would be greatly received.

I did have a good go at adjusting but no luck as of yet. I will persevere when my dad gets home from holiday and can sit in the seat for me.

I cant think of anything logical other than basic clutch adjustments but my landy knowledge is limited at best! Give me my mini any day!

Cheers

Sounds like the clutch isn't disengaging properly. Did you fit a new clutch kit when you put the 200 in?

Does the clutch pedal still feel like it did with the 19j?

The rod length shouldn't be an issue, you don't need to touch the clutch slave when you fit a 200. It could have become dislodged or misaligned during the fitting of the engine though. It may be a case of taking the engine back out and checking the clutch is all set up properly.
