    Backward step!

Just 'downgraded' from my black '01 TD5 Adventurer to a basic '97 Tdi 3 door. Now I can sleep at night again without worrying what will go wrong tomorrow and how much it will cost to put right! I wish I'd kept my '96 XS :(

    Heater Matrix

The matrix was about £50 from Aaron Radiator on ebay and the labour came to just under the £400 mark with VAT (ouch). It took them a day and a half to do the job.

    fan belt squeal

Tried the WD40 trick on mine after the water pump sprayed anti freeze all over the belt and made it squeal. WD40 lasted about 5 mins every time I applied it and then it squealed again. I bought a non-squeal belt off ebay for about £10 and it was cured.

What MPG can you realistically get from a Landy/Disco?

Think I posted here before that I could get 30mpg out of the old 300tdi. The TD5 is another matter. 25mpg seems to be about the norm and it has been as low as 20mpg on a long high speed (80ish) motorway run.

    Heater Matrix

It is a nasty job. My local 4X4 specialist did my old 300Tdi and it took them all day. I bought a new matrix from aaron radiators who advertise on ebay. It was about half the price the specialist could get one for and it seemed good quality. The fitter was impressed anyway. Cant see Disco ones...

    Rattle/Vibration On Start???

    Yes, mine does it too!

K&N Air filter for TD5 engines

Errmm..... Maybe I'll take mine out then! In my defence I bought the car with it already fitted.

    new taxation

Yes, £180 for your M plate Disco. £205 for my Y plate TD5 which probably polutes a lot less. Still, my '72 VW Beetle is free road tax and I hate to think what that chucks out the back!

    Disco with electric problems

The foglamp fuse on my '96 was in the engine bay fusebox, next to the expansion tank (mine was Tdi though). Mine actually turned out to be that the foglamps had been disconnected because they had corroded and were shorting and blowing the fuse. Not sure about the heater fuse. That might be in...

    Alloys on Disco 2

OK, I'm sure this is covered somewhere but I'm too lazy too search any more. I would like to stick some 18" Hurricanes on my '01 TD5. Am I right in thinking that Disco 2 wheels are the same fitment as a P38 Range Rover? Can you put P38 wheels straight onto a series 2 Disco? Cheers Mike

18" Alloys - Swap for 16" Alloys or Steels (Disco 2)

Did you manage to do a swap? If not I have 4 16" 5 spokes from a 2000 TD5 ES with good Goodyear Wrangler tyres.......

    Finally upgraded to a TD5!

How does it compare? Chalk and cheese! I loved the 300 Tdi, but this is in a different league. Its a far better ride on-road, handles better (it has ACE which is amazing) and it actually goes when you put your foot down. The TD5 engine is very quiet and smooth. I wonder how economy will compare...

    Finally upgraded to a TD5!

Thanks James, I am very happy with it. I like the amber running lights too, but I like the look of the later lamps. Mine also has a PSI Powerbox which makes a fair difference when I compare it to the other cars I test drove. Mine is missing it's original wheels as the previous owner fitted...

    Finally upgraded to a TD5!

Well after months of debating I have finally taken the plunge. Sold my trusty 130k mile '96 300Tdi XS on eBay last week and after scouring the on-line ads managed to find myself a very tidy 2001 TD5 Adventurer in black (this'll be fun to keep clean!). 300Tdi to a TD5 - talk about chalk and cheese!

    What are TDI's discos like 1996 ?????

I've had mine a year now and it's been great. Believe it or not I don't think I've enjoyed a car so much and I've had some nice stuff over the years including Golf GTI's, MG ZS180 and an Audi Quattro! Mine gives me around 30mpg and has been a handy work horse. Swapping it for a TD5 next week so...

    Sunroof sorted 300 TDI

My rear roof was leaking, but between the glass and seal as it seems that one of the cables has stretched and one side does not tighten down properly unless you bring the handle past the closed position. I'm afraid that due to lack of time to do anything about it and a lack of funds to get it...

    Bedfordshire Green Lanes

Thanks for that. I found it last night from the Steppingly end and drove a fair way down before coming across a cone with a yellow arrow directing me down into the dark forest (marked bridleway). I turned round and drove round to the Millbrook end (found it in the dark!) and went that way. Came...

    Bedfordshire Green Lanes

Can you tell me exactly how to get to this one? I only live half a mile down the road in Flitwick so this would be a good one to start off with :) Edit: Just found it on the OS map after using Darren's site......

Disco or Freelander to tow horses??

How about a Rover Streetwise? :D Seriously though, I wouldn't want to tow anything like that with a Freelander.
