    steering drop arm

The cheap pullers do work if you have patience and the time. Fit puller and tighten with moderate pressure (not enough to break it). Go and have a cup of tea, do a few other jobs for an hour or 2. Give the puller another half a turn, repeat the tea jobs routine. You may even need to leave it...

    sp landrover doortops predrilled.

Mine weren't drilled. I filled the first (what a pain), the second I used sikaflex to stick the channels in as recommended on another forum. Peter

    funny thing just happened

Series 2 or 3? The generic gaiter for the transfer lever is the wrong shape for pre 1968 models and bunches up in front of the lever when in high range. This can sometimes prevent the lever from going all the way forwards, it can then creep out of gear. Peter

    hub seal

It would certainly be a factor as the halfshaft would move about in relationship to the seal. More likely in land rovers because it is an oil seal not a grease sealbas in a car. Peter

Going to look at this tomorrow.

Having now looked at some of the photos it is definitely MOD you can see the NATO trailer socket on the rear panel and so the fuel filler should be under a seat. It probably started life with a full canvas tilt. Peter

Fuel filler could be under either seat or both if it had twin tanks. Peter

    Missing instrument and wiper panel

Dont think that T7 takes any more power than the smiths heater. The flat smiths heater does not fit if you have the small dash under the main dash. If yours is an 80" then I wouldnt have thought that the smiths flat heater wojld fit at all. Whe I had an 80 I used a square heater out of a...

    Missing instrument and wiper panel

They are better than the round than the round ones unless you fit a Clayton core. They all work better if you bend the fan blades a bit. The T7 square heater comes well recommended at about £130 new. Peter

    Missing instrument and wiper panel

There are several variations on that panel with holes in different places and different sizes but they crop up on eBay quite often and the prices can be reasonable, but they can also be silly money. Just bide your time and keep watching. Good luck Peter

This can't be original, can it?

Rear doors look like S1 Stationnwagon doors to me. Looks well done but I am sure that it would have been better leaving it as what ever it was before the bastardisation.

pic request of 265 or 285 wheel bonnet nounted

My 56 year old series 2 had a spare wheel on its bonnet for most of its 450000 miles and as a result some of the curve has gone and the bonnet doesnt sit well anymore, the weight of the wheel and the up and down motion has caused the frame to start to fatigue added to the weakening by rust. The...

Series III - 2.6 6Cyl Gearbox removal help

The spire speed screws that hold the floor down respond to a farly hefty clout on the head beforectrying to undo. They undo easier than normal nuts annd bolts. When putting things back use plenty of copprr grease and any future work will be much easier. Peter

    rear door has fallen

If the door shut before, and the bottom hinge has not been disturbed then I would unbolt the top hinge from the "new" side and with an assistant lift the door into the correct closed position and then push the topnhonge against the sdevto check that the mounting holes line up. (If the door...

    rear door has fallen

Not a solution to your problem but a bodgevwhenbthe hinges wear is to cut the ball in half and put a couple of washers between the 2 halves. I have had to do this on one of the front door hinges on my series 2. It makes all the difference. Peter

    Pattern vs OEM

For bearings an oilseals you cannot beat your local bearing supplier for price or quality. The added advantage is that you usually speak face to face with someone who has a reasonable knowledge of the subject and can guide you if necessary. Though Timken bearings are very good I bet your...
