Picked up on last mot excessive play in ball joint, easy enough me thinks, buy tool on internet to help extraction. away we go remove nut, brake taper with two hammers, this is easy. Remove circlip on bottom everything falls out not sure that's supposed to happen. Put in new top cup needed very little force to seat.Rang local indy landy dealer who says no, need to replace drop arm and by luck we have some in stock. ok go over get one, also have to buy large socket to remove nut. Now for the fun removing drop arm. After much swearing ,cursing,sweating(tad warm today) threw cheap puller away and managed to borrow landy dealers heavy duty puller. Took me longer to drive over and pick up than get the arm off in the end. all back together and steering guard on as well to protect my hard work

yep it's a crappy job. you are lucky the puller worked, many have to be cut off.

why did you need a new arm btw?

top cup wasn't a tight fit. It could just be pushed home. was advised best to change arm

The cheap pullers do work if you have patience and the time. Fit puller and tighten with moderate pressure (not enough to break it). Go and have a cup of tea, do a few other jobs for an hour or 2. Give the puller another half a turn, repeat the tea jobs routine. You may even need to leave it overnight. I have used this method many times on this type of joint.

There are 2vways of doing this job, the quick way using brute force and an expensive puller or the slow way as described above. Both have their merits

8 ton hydraulic SP left on over night after being soaked in plusgas also had a good few taps with a couple of mash hammers either side to shock it. didn't budge. loosened nut, tried driving offroad a bit to get it going.. no deal

a lot of them just won't budge without taking them off and putting them on a big puller

mine had to be cut.

i did as per your suggestion romahomepete..... even used heat - a 20 tonne press with the box removed.....

gave up in the end and ground the old one off with a 4 inch grinder and my mean grinder skillz.

If you are struggling to remove a drop arm, take the box off, put on the floor and wack the arm in the middle with a lump hammer. It usually takes no more than 3 hits.

Deader than a can of spam.

Bottom retaining lip on my drop arm had rotted out and wouldnt hold a circlip - plus the borg and beck ball joitn i bought was **** ... So i just bought an arm and cut old one off
