    Fuel tank cradle

Old thread this, but my cradle tubes are almost rusted through. Is anyone thinking of offering a stainless one ? :)

TD4 blue/white smoke on start up

My TD4 symptoms occur if I do not drive the vehicle for 48 hours. If I had the time I would let the engine sit for a couple of days after a good drive/warm-up, and then pull the glow plugs and stick a cotton bud in each cylinder to see if anything is accumulating, that would show if it is Diesel...

    Mystery sensor

Took these picture of my engine bay. There seems to be an 'extra' bit in there that doesn't match anything in the manual - any ideas? Is it one of these aftermarket boosters thingies or has someone just relocated a sensor for some reason ?

What tyres do you have on your freelander

Me too. They are a bit noisy on the road though.

    Problem with parking sensors

And the bumper screws will all be rusted solid, so you better get a dremmel and cut a slot in them !

    Problem with parking sensors

I'm hijaaking this thread, as it is parking sensor related. I previously fixed a wiring fault inside the rear bumper of my MY2004 FL1, and the parking sensors then started worked fine for a little while, but now it is intermittently not working, with a new fault. The previous fault had the short...

    Parts needed

The annoying thing about DKs is that it all looks very neat with the cars all stacked up nice and neat on those huge steel frames. That eBay pipe looks just like the one I bought for my Alfa from StIves Chandlers for £5.

Another option I have used for 90 degree bend hoses are boat chandlers. Apparently boats have an annual inspection, and any leaks of fluids is a fail, so they sell lots of odd bent hoses, at boaty prices, which are twice car prices, but half aeroplane prices. On a parts related item, I drove 1...

Td4 Thermostat Replacement - The Way To Do It!

It works! Journey outbound took 9 minutes for the temperature gauge to go from cold to mid way. The journey back, 2 hours later took 7 minutes to go from cold to mid way. Heater works a treat now. shame I have all these cuts and scrapes on my hands though. (:

Td4 Thermostat Replacement - The Way To Do It!

Thanks arctic2, I don't have the handy access holes in my bumper, and was thinking of drilling some for next time, and then I saw your photos, and I see other have done the same. I was going to get some blanking plugs for the holes. Also, On mine there are remnants of some plastic bits that...

Td4 Thermostat Replacement - The Way To Do It!

Yes, brain fade! thermostat I mean. I hope it all holds together, I don,t trust that plastic thermostat housing one bit. I thought having smaller hands would help me with the e8 screws - wrong. -Hazel

Td4 Thermostat Replacement - The Way To Do It!

Just finished putting the thermostat in, but not refitted the under tray. So far 9 hours. I had to idle the truck for nearly an hour to get the temperature gauge in the middle, and the lower radiator hose was still cold, and no leaks were visible - yay. Tomorrow I will road test and see how...

Td4 Thermostat Replacement - The Way To Do It!

Yes, I see the front two bolts were hidden under the bumper, which was already split from a previous access. So, remove under tray, wheel, jack up engine, etc takes about 1 hour. and each of the water pump screws takes about 1 hour! I had to modify my E8 socket a bit so I could get it in. That...

Td4 Thermostat Replacement - The Way To Do It!

I don't think this procedure will work on the facelift TD4. You seem to have to remove the front bumper, before you can remove the engine under tray, as the plastic is riveted to an aluminium frame. On the plus side, one the coolant is drained out, I believe you can get to the thermostat without...

    Fuel Burning Heater

The FBH started by itself this evening on the way to parents evening, but not on the way back. I've ordered an OBDII plug, and I will have a go at making the interface and running the software on my toughbook. So 0.6 Litres/hour means I only need 1.2 litres of kerosene for a 2 hour burn -out ?

    cold start white smoke....again (sorry)

I have a mad idea. If the glow plugs are all disconnected, by removing the fuse to them, then in theory the engine will take a few more cranks to start, but all the cylinders should fire around the same time. If that cures the fault, then that would indicate one or more plugs are pushing heat at...

Webasto FBH - Help me diagnose failure?

UPDATE According to the Disco_3_FBH_Workshop_manual_thermo_top_V.pdf the FBH runs full out until the temperature reaches 80 C, then runs at half power until it gets to 90 C. It won't switch back on until the temp falls again to 75 C. This is fairly close for a thermostat of 88. Of course the...

Webasto FBH - Help me diagnose failure?

Ah, there should be some way to read the coolant inlet temperature, and by the look of your instrument binnacle it should be close to 85. The FBH is supposed to stop at something near 65 I think?
