    Freelander 1 2WD to 4WD advice

Yes thanks, I've downloaded all 3 of the Rave files, theyre in the How To section ( you never know what you'll need in the future ). They are pretty good however there is no rebuild info for the gearbox, rear diff or ird. By comparison all of the info is available to rebuild the Disco...

    Freelander 1 2WD to 4WD advice

Hi Grumpy Gel There are no untoward noises from either the IRD or Rear Diff and they both feel to be in good condition, with no excess play, in fact the IRD actually feels very good and I'm suspecting its been changed in the recent past. You've just listed next weekends jobs drain and...

    Freelander 1 2WD to 4WD advice

Just been out and checked very little backlash in the IRD output and smooth as silk rotationally. Rear diff has a minimal amount of backlash ( approx 10mm on the flange od ) and no notchiness or roughness at all. Thanks for the pointers on what to check and look for.

    Freelander 1 2WD to 4WD advice

I've already checked the CV's and prop uj's and they are ok. I need to check the rear diff and IRD output flange for excess play / movement. Just something else to add to the list of checks & repairs :biggrin1:

    Freelander 1 2WD to 4WD advice

Thanks Grumpy Gel, I must have misunderstood what I had read here on the forum about the bench tests not having meaningfull / repeatable test figures. I guess I have a little work to do, as I intend to remove the VCU and carry out the bench test from Bells site as a base line. Then...

    Freelander 1 2WD to 4WD advice

I would suggest fitting each of the propshafts and carrying out the test on each of the ones you have. You dont need to drive the vehicle to do the test so no chance of causing damage to the gearbox / IRD. If you find that they are too stiff / tight you can always remove them and then get...

    Dash Switch Illumination

Ok, so no help there then ...... For anyone else with this issue the following may be of use. So far I have been unable to find a part no. for the clear lamps for the dash switches. However the green type as also fitted to the 300TDI Disco are STC 1878 and if you want/need the orange...

    Dash Illumination gremlins.

I think that you will find that all of the bulbs you are talking about are mounted to the flexible pcb on the rear of the instrument cluster and fed from only one live feed. To me it sounds like you have corrosion in the contact areas for the bulbs which is causing lamps to go off and back on...

    Dash Switch Illumination

Hi I have a 2001 TD4 5 door Freelander which I have owned for a few weeks and several of the switches no longer illuminate with the lights on. The hazard warning switch has a similar bulb fitted to those I remember from my 96 Disco switches but is clear in the freelander as opposed to being...
