Well they are a bit whiter and a bit brighter, but not quite the revelation that some raving reviews would lead you to believe. Certainly no challenger to HIDs but then again they are legal and safe in early headlights. I'd say worth a punt if you need to change your lamps anyway (as I did) and at £13 a pair from Amazon not too pricey either.
I've come to the freelander from a VW T4 which is also known for dull headlights and people have been fitting a "high power wiring loom" to those which is supposed to increase current to the lamps and make them brighter. Don't know if it's been tried on a freelander but it's basically wiring the headlights up through relays as if they were spotlights, with the original power feeds triggering the relays. The power feed is made up with thicker wire to carry more current / less resistance. Makes sense in theory but I never tried it on mine.
