I found a website that lets you send the unit to them. They then fix it and send it back for £48. Has anyone used this kind of service before. They also state they have a No Fix No Fee policy. I'm not endorsing this company as I have never used them, but here it is if anyone wants to check it...

Yep its 33.37 mpg and if you pay 133.9p per litre it works out at 18.24 pence per mile.

I got a 54 plate TD4 auto with 58k on the clock and I'm getting around 31/33 mpg and thats mainly country lanes. Only mod Ive done is adding a tuning chip thats set to halfway. Haven't done a long run yet so cannot comment on motorway mpg.

Try showing him the link and say if he comes down £50/75 then you will have the job done. Going by the link you provided it shows £109 + vat and probably delivery so he is not making that much from the parts. The cheapest new one delivered to the UK is £99 on fleebay and the timing kit is around...

Me thinks these need putting right first before you can continue to diagnose. If the pulley is not running flat then that in its self would cause a rattle.

My brother bought a 51 plate Freelander with a manual td engine and apart from the SRS light being on its absolutely mint. It had a new engine about 8k ago by it one and only previous owner and the SRS light has been on since. He had it serviced the other day and the mechanic said his equipment...

Say to them that they will need to fix it or you will have to ring the number on the back of the MOT Cert. VOSA could stop them doing MOT's.

Your real MPG average is 31.96, covering 210 miles using 6.57 gallons of fuel. Just a smidge over 19p a mile which is good for a TD4 auto.
