    CV Joints

Its only happening when I turn, and not every time. When you say have you any grease/oil in my swivels are you thinking that there may be something going on in that direction instead?

Can you guys tell me if this is a job that needs immediate attention or whether it would be ok left for a short time. A time when I may just be able to muster some help with it.

    Overheating but only when towing!

I have had the same problem in the past, towing up those never ending mountain roads in the Scottish Highlands. However, I've not had a problem since removing my EGR valve. I don't know whether it's removal was relevant, but it may just be worth looking at.

    CV Joints

The Mad Hat Man Yes I agree there are plenty up here. I think I've only spotted one on this site though. The nature of the place demands a lot of Landies with the main line of employment up here being farming or fishing, but I haven't come across the enthusiast type that spends a lot of time...

    CV Joints

Thanks for the reply Jason. I'm not sure its a job I would feel confident doing looking at your reply. I have difficulty in getting myself low enough to do a job like this and if it involves any length of time stuck in one position, I'm stuffed. Thankyou again.

    CV Joints

Could one of you good folk out there tell me just how easy or difficult it is to change CV joints on a Discovery 300Tdi 1995. Is it likely to be a specialist job or maybe one for the layman?

    Clunk clunk clunk!

Hughie Thanks for the suggestions. I had the A frame ball joint replaced a couple of months ago so would like to think that it is not the problem. I'll check the CV joints first.

    Clunk clunk clunk!

Having just sorted my last problem out I didn't think it would be too long before the next one made an appearance. When I turn the car to the right on full lock I seem to be getting a triple rapid clunk. It is more evident when I'm towing, maybe the extra weight on the back, and I'd swear...

Gear box oil change, yes or no?

Thanks for all the input on this subject folks. I've obviously hit on a popular subject here!

Gear box oil change, yes or no?

Thanks for that Dave. I fully expect my oil to resemble liquid tar, I just wish I'd done something about it earlier. It says a lot for the car really knowing the sort of work it does!

Gear box oil change, yes or no?

Thanks for that Jim. I did feel myself that this guy was talking from his rear end. The job is being done this week so your input has been very valuable to me.

Gear box oil change, yes or no?

Thanks for your views lads. I will act appropriately.

Gear box oil change, yes or no?

Having spoken to someone who is supposed to be in the know I am told that gear box and transfer box oil doesn't need changing, it just needs topping up. He tells me that if I were to drain the oil then compare it to the new oil I would be unable to tell the difference between the two. Now this...

    Door that won't open!

Motorcycle grease is a new one on me. If I can get the door open then I will try anything to prevent it happening again. The weather here is rarely what I would call hot, and the winters I would say can be quite harsh to say the least. The whole car is slowly being eaten away by the often...

    Door that won't open!

I was operating the catch rather than the lock with the screwdriver. I did after a few minutes spot that it was easy to confuse the two. As far as WD40 is concerned I'm sure your right about it clogging up eventually. As far as silicon spray opposed to 3 in 1 oil, I don't know. I assume...

    Door that won't open!

Well you are bang on Slob regarding the adjustment that can be made. According to the Rave manual you disconnect one of the rods and turn it either clockwise or anti-clockwise to lengthen or shorten its operating span. The handle should open the door long before it reaches its limit. Now...

    Door that won't open!

I did try the screwdriver ploy and managed to get the mechanism to operate to what appeared to be its limit, but the door is still shut. The thing that really concerns me is if I manage to get it open, am I going to be able to shut the swine again. I'll take a look at my Rave manual and see if...

    Door that won't open!

Thanks for the reply Slob. I'll try and take a gander at the workings, but as I'm sure you know the space in which to work is a nightmare and when you have hands like 5lb of pork sausage its even worse. Of course I also can't get at any of the bolts that hold the mechanism in place because they...

    Door that won't open!

I have a 1995 300Tdi Discovery and have a rear passenger door that won't open. I live in a place where the car is constantly subject to a salty atmosphere and in bad weather gets sprayed with sea water. A couple of months ago I managed to take the inside panel off the same door when I recognised...
