Having just sorted my last problem out I didn't think it would be too long before the next one made an appearance.

When I turn the car to the right on full lock I seem to be getting a triple rapid clunk. It is more evident when I'm towing, maybe the extra weight on the back, and I'd swear that the clunks seem to be coming from the rear of the car. However, we all know how noise carries. I have been told that there is a possibility that it may be some sort of bearing at the top of the struts/coil springs on the front of the car, but if I have my window open when it happens it seems to be the back of the car that it is coming from.

I have a 1995 300Tdi and it has covered 151,000. I would be grateful of any ideas you can throw at me on this problem.

If coming from rear it could be the A frame ball joint, though this makes a clunck noise in all conditions. You say it is noisy when you are in full lock, that would point to the CV joint at the front hub.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had the A frame ball joint replaced a couple of months ago so would like to think that it is not the problem. I'll check the CV joints first.

I sometimes (quite rarely) get one or more loud cracking noises - seems to be mostly when turning left on full lock if the back wheels are higher than the front, for example if driving down a sloped driveway and then turning sharply left onto a flat road. Could this be a CV joint?

Does this sound like the same problem as Toad's? It's a 94 200Tdi.
