if its still got the original water pump on they have got a plastic impellor which goes britall and brakes when mine went it took the top hose out (split it and took a chunk out of it) i put new hose on still doing the same really quickly then sussed water wasnt being pumped round the system

if it goes out of sync it will still turn over but no sign firing at all

hi ive unplugged no 4 injector and all the coolant sensor before with the battery connected and disconnected and have never had any gremlin faults with the becm . good luck mate

there is a pressure release on the header tank cap you might be hearing it come from there and 12 o clock area is right for the gauge give or take a bit either side

you could try putting the key in the door lock press the lock button while turn the key to lock then bring it back to center then press and hold unlock while turning key to unlock postion then release and try starting it, or the worst case is that it needs a relearn on the becm as they can drop...
