Accessing the starter motor on TD5 Disco

Hi Brian If you don't get the solenoid click there may be some other issue here. Sometimes a bad earth or battery connection could cause issues. Before taking the starter off, you could check your battery connections are tight and corrosion free and your earth to the starter is ok. I know...

Accessing the starter motor on TD5 Disco

When I did my starter motor, I undid the fasteners for the belly pan and just pushed it over to the passaenger side and this gave enough room to get at the starter. Do you get a click noise when the car doesn't start? This usually happens if its the solenoid bushes. You defo don't have to...

    2nd fault of the day....TURBO

When the actuator is still atatched I think you should be able to move it with a pair of pliers. There is quite a bit of resistance from the actuator. On the TD5, if you unclip from it from the wastegate lever , the lever should move freely. Mine was sticking at bit and needed lubed.

    help

My fuel prssure regulator was leaking but it didn't affect the running of the car. There is decent info on fixing it here www.discovery2.co.uk To get it done it should be £80 odd plus 1 hours labour. Cheers Andy

    Sunroofs

A common place for the leak is between the sunroof frame and the roof. If you look you could probably see a gap. I could, on both my sunroofs. To test if this was leaking, I ran some black electrical tape over the gap, with a view to doing the job properly with black Sikaflex down the line. My...

    New Disco.......Problems !

I did mine. The top bolt is tricky but will come off if you take your time. Lie on the floor below the car as you do with the other bolts and get the small size socket extension bar. I can't remember the size of socket but it is different than the other two. Reach up and put your hand over the...

    stiff gearbox

This is a common enough issue and may be a simple fix. From memory, there is a ball below the gear stick that needs lubed. I have a feeling that you can dribble some oil down the gear stick shaft. Someone with better info can maybe advise you further. Also, try searching on this or other...

Things I like about my TD5

Here's what I like about mine... Good value for money. Discovery TD5 stuttering

No, not yet. I have read alot about fuel lines leaking through rubbing on the chassis. LRO this month has an article on replacing TD5 fuel lines at the rear of the chassis.

    Rear abs sensors

They are simple to fit. One Allen bolt holds them to the hub, then the senor has a pull a part fitting under the wheel arch. I can't remember if you have to take the brake disk off to get to the sensor. If you do that's easy as well. Cheers Andy

    Discovery TD5 stuttering

Gunge on the MAP sensor, which is on the inlet manifold can affect it like this. Mine wouldn't rev out properly until I cleaned it. It's a 5 min job to clean it. Take engine cover off, then 2x8mm bolts and pull the plug out, spray of contact cleaner and your'e done. It would be useful to get...

Problem Already with my td5 gs 2

I was just reading this thread on AULRO. One of the last posts mentions that using steel dowels in the earlier engines could cause problems. No idea why. Just thought I would point it out. quote from AULRO thread... The Plastic Dowels dont cause the failure... Loss of tension in the head...

    disco td5 missing when reving

What about the hoses for the intercooler and turbo delaminating? This is really common and causes issues with power delivery. If they are overly soft this could maybe indicate they need changing. This includes teh hoses before the turbo as well as after and either side of the intercooler. I...

to blank or not to blank

Do you know if the new chip looks any different than the old one? I'm thinking of doing this to my year 2000 Disco and would like to keep the upgrade on the QT. Just in case the wife goes poking around inside the ECU;)

    TD5 oil leak

It's definitely not diesel then? The fuel pressure regulator is usually a prime suspect for leaks like this. Mine was leaking and the diesel was everywhere.
