egr actuator or ecu full of water?

Also look down to the exhaust manifold, you will find your turbo in there, feel about at the back and you will feel a threaded rod, this is the waste gate actuator if it got wet then its probably sort of got a bit rusty and seized. I would give it a wiggle about and a gentle tap to free up any corrosion thats holding it.

The actuator should not move freely but it should move a bit

Can give me a clue where they are and what they look like mrs his been tidying and I cant find haynes manual

vacuum valve modulator

The vacuum modulator valve will be around the outside of the engine bay. Most probably on the bulkhead. I dunno where the ecu is on the disco. On the defender it's under the front centre seat.

Check the thin vaccuum pipework connecting the modulator to the egr and actuator too.

Is your air filter clean and/or all your pipework in good condition? Also check you haven't damaged the intercooler.

right thanks for all the pics and advice.took off the pipes and cleaned em.Found actuator and it wouldnt move by hand is that right ?
anyone know where the vacuum modulator valve is on a 300tdi ?

Still no turbo :(

When the actuator is still atatched I think you should be able to move it with a pair of pliers. There is quite a bit of resistance from the actuator. On the TD5, if you unclip from it from the wastegate lever , the lever should move freely. Mine was sticking at bit and needed lubed.
