as far as the mot is concerned, i am under the impression that as long as the corrosion is not within 30cm of a 'prescribed area' (seatbelt mounts, brake component mounts, steering/suspension) and does not present a sharp edge to injure pedestrians you should be ok...:confused::confused:

the defender recieved the disco engine in a slightly detuned version.. (according to wikipedia)

ive just done the same thing- now my 'discofender' is ready for the road, i swapped engine, t/box, both axles, steering box and trackrods, speedo cable and cluster (wanted rev counter and temp sender) took on test drive- drives fantastic..:D:D:D:D:D

used engine oil?? im still a bit 'shocked' by this one.. :confused: is this a td5 thing, or will a 200tdi be ok?? do you have to change the fuel filter more frequently?? (i have alot of used engine oil...) is it gonna pump out enough blue smoke to attract the attention of the boys in blue...

replacing a 90 gearbox is one of the worst jobs ive ever done on a car:( even with the haynes way of engine crane through door.. getting the mounts back on was a pain.. (plus the amount of waxoil in my hair/armpits/etc..) there is no centre of gravity to jack.. if i ever have to do it again...

it took two of us to carry the bare axle away.. still uncomfortably heavy.. i personaly wouldnt bother stripping the innards out, ive just swapped front axles (a disco front onto my 90) and it was pretty straight forward.. 1)unbolted panhard rod from steering box end. 2)unbolted both o/s and...

i replaced the rear axle on my 90 with a disco 1... i left the wheels (and tyres) on and wheeled the old one out and the new one in.. i did have to jack pretty high to clear the tyres.. then lower the car down onto it.. linning it up was a bit of a sod..but i wouldnt have been able to do it any...
