sounds like your, um, ger box is shggd. Sorry, shagged.

Ive jus put another in mine, 2nd one this year and its a sod of a job to change them.

replacing a 90 gearbox is one of the worst jobs ive ever done on a car:( even with the haynes way of engine crane through door.. getting the mounts back on was a pain.. (plus the amount of waxoil in my hair/armpits/etc..) there is no centre of gravity to jack.. if i ever have to do it again.. im gonna consider removing as much of the body as pos and lifting it up and out:(:(
horrible job- good luck;)

aye it aint much fun. Did you do the mainbox and transfer box together? I did mine seperately, and it took me about 4 days - thats a long job. I didn' have a crane though, i jus used ratchet straps and a mate.

Takes me about 5 hours to do a full engine change an all normally :)

:D:Dyeh, g/box and t/box as one unit:( i swapped the front disco axle in the morning.. straight forward, then though i'd replace the transfer box with disco one.. removed box (took hours) swapped transfer box sorted all the gearchange linkages etc.. then went to put it back in... fair enuff, i was doing it on my own, but even so.. turned out to be an absolute sod.. just gonna go and finish off the o/s mount (fuel tank clearance on 3 13mm bolts causes headache..) and then fit my 200tdi conversion:D:D then my discofender will almost be complete.. happy days

yours sounds kinda like mine... I got both disco axles, disco 300tdi and disco xfer box on mine. Tis great!

By the way its much easier to fit a transfer box by leaving the main box on the LR, but its still an ARSE of a job. I did the main box on my own, cudn do the xfer box though.

By the way, i had issues with the OS gearbox mount, and its fuel tank interferance. I cut the bolts off and made some fresh ones outta some 8.8 M8 stud iron, sorted.

good tip- i like that one:) just finished and the g/box is back on its mounts:cool: as expected the o/s was a total sod.. massive clearance issues with seatbox.. then realised that the bell housing end had to be supported in approx the right place.. it must be a struggle mating the transfer box in situ??? that is a pretty heavy bit.. if the box ever needs to come out again, im thinking remove seatbox etc and lift it up into car.. hopefully the box stays (the fact that the last owner used ep90 is pretty worrying tho.. hopefully drain and refill with fresh atf might prevent any further damage..).. gonna have a cuppa and try and fit the 200tdi lump...

getting the tbox in in situ it OK, cos its a manageable weight to lift from in the car with a strap round it while your mate guides it in :)

I fitted a 300 into mine, took a few days cos of rain and work etc. Well worth it though!

Yes the tbox is heavy.

Oh, the main reason my OS gbox mount is such a sod is cos when i fitted the 300 it didn' quite go in straight, so it pulls the gbox mounts out of line a touch. Git... :)
