    A/C Problems - Grinding Noise TD4 04

Just drove home through some terrible weather which included parts of the road being flooded, so had to wade through huge dirty great puddles. Having got home I've noticed there's a horrible grinding noise coming from under the bonnet - off side. Further investigation reveals this only happens...

    In Big Trouble

Replace the vacuum filter on top of the engine - I'm sure there's a thread on this somewhere. Basically take the engine cover and air filter assembly off and it's on top near the injectors. 20-30min job tops It'll need doing anyway and is only a £25 DIY job so you've nothing to lose.

Interesting ming - so what you're saying with SVO is that you need not bother with the methanol/NaOh mixing business provided you're not going over 25% - this sounds a hell of a lot easier. I've tried the WVO route and I agree its a pain in the ar$e to filter it, heat it, mix it etc - however...

    Freelander Faults poll

Good point, I am considering downgrading to something a bit more economical simply because of the mileage I do, even at 32-34mpg the td4 is costing me a fortune - strangely though this time last year it didn't! Thanks Gordon, Darling etc!

Is it best to filter the oil before adding the methonol/spirits or would it be easier to filter it afterwards (as it will be thinner) I'm guessin once it's thin enough all the crap will settle to the bottom anyway?

    Freelander central Locking

Might be that the motor does not even need replacing - could be a loose rod or something - if you're comfotable with taking the door panel off it's likely to be a simple fix - Search for RAVE cd - tis the owners bible/koran

The 2008 Budget - Cars - Interesting Article

Out of interest I wonder just how many they've made it more appealing to? <Rant> Seems to me that any potential benefits are pretty much wiped out by the rising fuel costs - tax on fuel is as a % so the government have got their increased revenue from this already and are able to blame it...

Help on a new turbo for a TD4 in Surrey

Probably more a case that there's so many buggered L/R's out there! Worth noting that the depression filter assembly on top of the engine should be changed and at 24k intervals thereafter - might help prevent this happening again!

2004 td4 auto 45k MAF Sensor - replaced with ronbox pierburg combo (still idles rough but ron assisting) Lake in boot GPS Aerial fault Other than tyres, brakes and servicing thats it. I'm still considering changing it tho - £400 + tax is ridiculous

    £415 Road Tax ! ?

Yeah but just think - you could be paying near enough the same to tax a 2.0 diesel or petrol as someone who can afford a new ferrari that spits out nearly double the emmissions - you still feeling cheery? The 20 pence per litre fuel duty rebate for biofuels will be stopped in 2010 - so it seems...

    £415 Road Tax ! ?

This makes me sick. 2nd hand values will plummet. If it is genuinely about emissions, why noy make it from 2015 onwards (so people can choose a greener car in the future, rather than scrapping a perfectly good one now). And who does this hit hardest - those that can't afford to change their cars...

    TD4 Rough Running

I've had similar symptons with a TD4 with lower mileage. Tried everything including the cookin oil additive. Thought I'd got to the bottom of it with replacement MAF from roverron - this sorted it out, but just this weekend after a 400mile round trip down south the intermittat erratic idling has...

    CD stacker for freelander/

Most helpful Steve, many thanks - I've replied to your pm. I was wondering if through some splicing and dicing if I could get the RC026 (philips changer) which I was supplied with to work with the becker unit - the blue plug at head unit end fits, but doesn't seem to work with the round pin...

    CD stacker for freelander/

I think this is where the problem lies - mine came with a Philips changer with a blue plug for the head unit end and a round DIN plug at the changer end. Like this one, but without the red plugs at the head unit end. It did come with a loom with a black plug at the end - so may just need alpine...

Fitting is one thing, whether the tyres will take your wheel arches with em is another. You may want to consider the tyres too, then again, maybe you wont.

    TD4 Flat as!

I'll be keepin my eyes on this thread as I'd be very intrigued to know how it pans out. Basically we have a situation here where the garage/dealer has gone ahead and done some work to the tune the best part of 500 notes (300 for the service sounds steep too - but if that included a maf then...

Alarm outputs, window closure on lock

Thanks for that - had a quick read through it appears to be a method of keeping the windows with power after the ignition is switched off - my FL already has this - it provides 30-40 secs of power to the switches after the ingnition is switched off to allow you to manually put the windows up...
