I've got a '68 SIIA which gets a £0 disc too, but don't forget that this Government stopped the annual 'rollup' of vehicles qualifying for this benefit, so that the youngest vehicles are now 35 Years old! Not many of those will be used as the daily transport!

It's going to be interesting to see how long it takes before this benefit is removed entirely and taxation is based on MOT test results (backed up with 'random' roadside emmission tests) ???? That way they can fleece anyone who dares to drive a vehicle instead of using the 'perfectly satisfactory' public transport systems that are so well ubiquitous - NOT!

Perhaps Gordo's vision is for us all to live in super-cities, where work, leisure and home are all catered for in a convienient, healthy, safe and secure environment - a place importantly where we can all be monitored easily!!!!

Likewise my '69 S2a/3. Bizarre really, when you think about how inefficient they are.

Even dafter though is that I pay less road tax on my '99 1.8K F/L than my wife pays on her '03 1.6 Zafira.
 
I have a 2002 TD4 manual which means £300 when the hike comes. The way I look at it is that I'm paying £200 a year now so if I stick a tenner a month in a jar the extra is covered without even noticing!

This is much better than what it would cost to change cars plus I like my FL so an extra tenner a month has got to be worth it to drive something I enjoy owning!

This makes me sick. 2nd hand values will plummet. If it is genuinely about emissions, why noy make it from 2015 onwards (so people can choose a greener car in the future, rather than scrapping a perfectly good one now).
And who does this hit hardest - those that can't afford to change their cars just like that.

It was the same with the Energy Saving Trust grants, where you could only get a grant towards converting a car to LPG if it was under a year old *and* on the governments list of 'nice' cars.

If you could afford a brand new car then you could probably afford to pay for the conversion yourself! We had to pay in full to convert our old V8 Discovery.

I shall be doing my utmost to keep our geriatric Series 2a/3 on the road for as long as possible, knowing it must be a terribly irritating thorn in Gordon's side...

Yeah but just think - you could be paying near enough the same to tax a 2.0 diesel or petrol as someone who can afford a new ferrari that spits out nearly double the emmissions - you still feeling cheery?

The 20 pence per litre fuel duty rebate for biofuels will be stopped in 2010 - so it seems the government wants their cut on them too.

**** aye I don't care what anybody else pays out Oh and it's a 2.5litre diesel, and I've never bought a litre of biodiesel in my life. so that won't bother me either.
