Not sure how much water it's using over what period of time - but it could be the water resevoir. I seem to recall these crack (very slightly) in fact I think mine has. I only have to top up with perhaps a pint or so every month or two (depending on miles driven).

Another thing to consider - if changing from v6 to TD4 will that have log book implications - could be problematic for insurance/tax in future. I'm sure others will have been through this before so there maybe some more info here on the forums.

Wouldn't recommend towing it that distance unless you're happy with changing the transmission too.. Not sure about the tax - recent budget debacle has left me none-the-wiser!

H'mm this is unusual on a TD4 - had it been a petrol model there'd be no suprise in seeing HGF symptons. I'm slightly worried now - could it be that the dreaded HGF is not limited to petrol models? What's the mileage on this one?
