My TD4 is using water on short journeys, theres scale around the cap (now replaced because I though it was blocked) still using it, no water in engine oil, not leaking out anywhere.

Any ideas ?

Not sure how much water it's using over what period of time - but it could be the water resevoir. I seem to recall these crack (very slightly) in fact I think mine has. I only have to top up with perhaps a pint or so every month or two (depending on miles driven).

first replace the cap - and if it still continues - get it pressure tested. the caps are prone to going - as are the containers.

Thanks guys

On short jouneys to work 50 miles a week it will use about 1litre , once a month i do around trip of 300 miles and sometimes it will use less.

Have replaced the cap, still no change

scale around the cap is a good indicator. Header tanks some time fractured minutely around the neck and threads, allowing a small amount of seepage. (ooh er). Scale is crystalised salts from the anti-freeze.
