    Basingstoke Lanes 10 April 2011

We saw plenty of those - could have leaned out the window and grabbed a couple of them!

What have you done to your Landie today.

Introduced the wife and kids to bit of gentle laning in the Ninety. A splendid time was had by all!

Nope, not scary at all. It's the not-knowing before-hand. Wouldn't want to get stuck with the kids in the Landy.

    Basingstoke Lanes 10 April 2011

Bit of a spur of the moment thing - the little lad has been quite poorly lately, but I finally managed to convince the missus to let him out of the house. Loaded both kids and the wife in the Ninety and went to have a little look. Glad we weren't too late - it sure is pretty :)

Started Resto work on my S3

The right decision, methinks. You've come too far to flog it and let someone else take all the glory! Nice one. :)

What's the deal with a used bulkhead?

^^^^ Agreed. I decided that if I was going to try and keep a 20+ year old Landy on the road, I was either going to be forever paying someone else to weld it up for me, or I'd have to learn myself. I bought a cheap MIG welder and had a go - my first attempts were hilarious. But then I did an...

    Squiddy's Series 2A

Nearly got the rear axle back together - all painted up, new bits and pieces, just a couple of jobs left to do! You'll notice I haven't painted the plate that the prop-shaft bolts to. That's because I have a new pinion seal to go in the nose of the diff, and it's easier to...

    Goodo.

what is needed for a clutch re-build on series 2a?

As above - get the complete clutch kit. You'd be mad to strip it all down and only replace half the clutch! Borg & Beck are a decent make.

    Squiddy's Series 2A

It looks worse in that picture than it really is, as I had only given it a quick wire-brushing. So the pitting is more pronounced. I've now been all over with the wire-brush, given it a coat of Coroless primer and a coat of Frosts chassis black. I'll post up some pics soon - but it's looking a...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Started painting the Series rear axle components - primer today, top coat tomorrow.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Got two of the bushes out of the Series chassis - whoop!

    dem doors...

Series doors. If your existing doors are half-decent they'll sell well too.

    Squiddy's Series 2A

All teeth look in good condition - no scratching or scoring. The oil that came out looked good too. Although 40 years old, I don't get the impression this vehicle has done a huge mileage. It's just been allowed to rot more than I would have liked! Still, I've seen a lot worse - and hopefully...

    Squiddy's Series 2A

I started stripping down the rear axle as I had hoped it would be a relatively straight forward job - disassemble / clean / paint / reassemble. Firstly, I couldn't find my hub nut spanner and all the shops are shut so couldn't do much more than get the brakes off and half-shafts out. Took the...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Stripped the Series rear axle down ready for cleaning, painting, rebuilding, etc. All looks okay.... apart from some rot in the strengthener.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Completely failed to remove any of the suspension bushes from the Series chassis. Feeling thoroughly demoralised at the moment. Will have another go later when my "mojo" has returned...

    Looking to recondition a Defender

Have you considered a Series Land Rover rather than a Defender? Lots of these going for well under a grand. I paid £400 for mine - it's a complete vehicle (MOT fail), basically sound, but in need of lots of TLC.
