err.. i recently drove to drop off some lab equipment near paris as a favour for an ex employer round trip around 1100 miles thing is i did it in my wifes 02 K series petrol freelander,didnt miss a beat,averaged around 27 mpg and didnt blow any gaskets ect i didnt go over 3.5 thou revs and kept at a steady 75mph these things are not good above 90 mph,but i enjoyed the ride although correcting the wallowing on the motorway gets a bit knackering.doing newquay in august round trip of 800 miles loaded with 5 people lots of luggage and 2 bikes on rack.if something goes wrong i dont freak out, its a machine and they will break down at some point(i did the head gasket on this a few months ago)not a td4 but i just wanted to put a positive k series story in cheers mark,

That's just a trip to London and back for me.

I'd set off in under half an hour if the call came to go there. Even today with all the snow down South.

I'd need that long to fill a vacuum flask and get a couple of bars of nutty. :rolleyes:

I travel to the Balkans 3 or 4 times a year - about 2300 miles out and the same home. Takes me 4 days to get there as I like to stop and have B&B on the way. Been doing it for years.

Only extra preparation needed would be fitting the roof-box and increasing the rear tyre pressures if I had a full load.

Lots of fun, and yummy food en-route. :D

Hey people,

What is it with the Freelander bashing? Is it written in stone somewhere that, in order to drive on anything but tarmac, you must own a series whatever, or a Disco, or the daddy that is Range Rover? I do believe that Freelanders have this capability too, or am I mistaken? Just wondered. Any comment, or abuse for being a novice when it comes to Land over, is more than welcome. I'm a convert from Toyota, and was hoping that there would be more positivity for Land Rover.

Welcome to the forum. It's the tratterers that pick on Freelanders. Theres far too many faults with their tratters. Easier pick on Freelanders and their owners than repair their own faults. If they make out our Freelanders are bad, it makes their tratters look better. :doh: :crazy:
 
I once spent a hour with a diesel fitter telling me why I should not get a landrover (series). Reasons where needs a football pitch to turn round, steering balls corrode, aluminium body corrodes worse than steel, back chassis member falls off towing anything and more oil leaks than the torrey canyon among lots more reasons.

Haven't got a clue what a gaylander is either, I have got a td4 55 plate freelander though and would trust it!

So it appears....

I am fairly sure that it is because, even with the reputation gained by K-series HGF failures, the Freelander is the most use-able daily transport made by Land Rover, upto the current crop (and only time will tell about the Evoque and Freelander 2) and this goes against the accepted Lore of owning a Land Rover means you either have to have AA/RAC membership or are proficient with spanners, which seems to upset Series/Defender owners! (or Tratters as they are known here)

Any well maintained vehicle can still break down, even 'youngsters' under warranty and serviced by the stealership can breakdown.

All Land Rovers are welcome here and it's a shame just a minority need to discriminate Freelander owners.

I am almost positive, my comments will attract derision from 'tratters' too

I would also suggest, that a Moderator or Admin member, edit the thread title to remove the word 'Gaylander' ?

Yes, easily, if on motorways, i recon i could do it on 2 tanks of fuel if i stick to 60. Best range from a tank is 585 and that included town driving so motorway only would be 650 i recon.

Yes my freeby has went wrong, but it has never left me stranded at the side of the road. It was always got me home. The collapsed prop bearing ment i could only do 25mph but i was only 3 miles from home and i could take the back roads as the traffic is non existant.
 
I completely agree! freelanders are one of the biggest selling lr and made land rover a killing, ok they have problems but so do discoverys and range rovers and defenders, ppl only pick on freelanders because they are the baby land rover, i would trust my 1998 L series freelander to take me anywhere in the world.

I have done regular 20000 miles a year and only just latly had problems and they are now fixed so I am happy to do another 20000 miles per year ask me would I trust my landy freelander td4 auto what else can I say but YES
 
ive had my freelander for 3 years now only probs i had was last year when i had to fit both fuel pumps within a month of each other, touch wood all is well as it was before the pump saga ,so yes its totaly reliable at 110,000 miles ,just look after it mate.:)
 
Most definately, and certainly more than a drafty old tratter!! :p


Just for interests sake, as Freelanders and Series/Defenders have detrimental nicknames here on the forum, what are Disco's and Rangies also known as in the 'Detrimental Department'?
