One of my best friends is an OZZY, she thinks OZ is overrun with illegal & legal non European immigrants. Pretty nigh impossible for the likes of me to get in, I tried, even had relative who would sponsor me but I could not get a work permit.

Not sure I believe any government stats anymore, the UK government wilfully ignores many of the illegals.

Wealthy countries have always (1000s of years worth of migrations) been the target of poorer peoples, whether being due to economics, war, famine, culture or persecution, none of it is new.....it just so happens to be more visible and its impact felt more widely due to media reporting and focussed in smaller areas.........and very political.
