I've had my D2 for five years now and I've never seen that light! The most fuel I ever buy is half a tank, but it is the top half!
Apart from that, from what I've read about "the diesel bug" it likes fuel tanks which don't contain much fuel, which in the case of the Td5, when the engine is running, the fuel in the tank can reach the temperature that the bacteria likes very much quicker if there isn't much fuel in it.
When fuel tanks are left very low, there tends to be a lot more space for moisture to develop which can lead to water collecting at the bottom of the tank below the fuel. The bacteria loves to live on the interface between the water at the bottom and the fuel which tends to float above it.
 
Stop running it low. Treat quarter of a tank as empty td5 fuel pumps get hot and like being submerged.
I normally fill mine up when it gets to 1/4. The one time I let the light come on, I stopped briefly with it pointing uphill and it wouldn't restart. I had to put about 10 litres in before I could get it to run again. I later realised that as the pump is nearer the front of the tank, if the level is low it will be sucking air......

TBH I've never understood that thing about sucking rubbish from the bottom when the level is low as that's where it's pulling from anyway. If there was something floating on the top then OK.
 
Yes it's noisy when ignition is turned on, l have completed at least 3 purge sequences, pump was giving 4 bar when tested.
 
Got it going again, fully charged battery. At least 8 purge cycles, sprayed brake cleaner in inlet , that did the trick. So again it's very likely the fuel gauge is over reporting. My son ran my nanocom while driving, got a fault,,turbo over boost, turns out actuator spring faulty, and previous owner has altered the treaded rod, probably in conjunction with the plug in performance chip that l recently removed. So readjust rod, change actuator, that should stop the hesitant running.
Just readjustment and cleaning EGR, map and maf sensors, have made a huge difference with the hesitance gone, acid test will be to check when towing.
So yes must get my daughter to stop running IT LOW!! Purging is very hard to do!!!!@@#@$$%$ !!!
 
Separate issue, nanocom also got heated front screen and fog lights working!! Going to check autobox next see if xyz has any issues as l have heard this might cause cutting out/poor running??
 
All good runs well and tows a trailer with horses. Now got to sort poor MPG currently 22MPG it's an auto. Going to remove EGR and a high flow air filter first. Any other solutions? would a remap help MPG, not really interested in performance.

We have had our TD5 disco since 2007 and 23 mpg is all we have got out of it. I don't think the Land Rover claimed a much higher figure for it and they always get the highest figure they can. I always disregard some claims on forums when it comes to how fast their cars go or incredible fuel consumption figures.
 
I agree. Mine has done 21.34 over the 60,000 miles I've had it. Probably 12,000 miles of that towing a 1.5 tonne caravan. A lot of the rest short journeys, but when it's on the open road always driven at the speed limit where possible.

I've recorded every single litre of fuel that's gone into it in a spreadsheet so am happy that my figures are correct. It's interesting how the mpg can vary from fill to fill.
