Hello Guys,
I have a what seems to be a low specked out 2003 3dr Freelander 1,
it doesn't have all the nice to haves such as heated seats or heated screen,
and they all seem to have the same poor and very slow performing heater,
no FBH either, so when like a little earlier this evening I needed to pop out quickly I went to the Freelander
and it was frozen inside and out on the windscreen,
it took almost 10 min to get to a point that I was able to see out safely,
and therefore start my journey..

I was wondering what you guys use to help a little in the situation??
I have seen ceramic heater/blowers on e-bay, are they any good??

but what do you guys have or use??
do you have any tricks you use that would help me out a bit??

My doors are all still attached, but my matches are wet and don't work..

I have cold and wet matches that don't work mate,,,

any advise on how to burn something with no matches would also help..

Do you have air con? I assume not, but for anyone reading with aircon, switch it on while you're blowing hot air and engage the cabin air circulator. This will dry out the air in the cabin and help reduce fogging.

Indi, what about one of the chamoise sponge for doing the inside and some de icer spray for the outside? Mine is top spec 2004 but if you don't have a heated screen you is basically fecked. I wish I had one

Them sponges is ****, got one in mine and it does nothing for the screen

Are they? Bugger I was going to get one.

What about something to treat the inside like they use for defogging ski goggles? Like "Cat Crap"? It works well enough on my shooting glasses when I'm out airsofting

I'd suggest one of them hard rubber scrapers and a towel underneath to catch the crap

if not as said de-icer and a rag

What seems to help with mine is to leave the front windows open just a little so the interior cools faster after I park it up.
This reduces the moisture build up on the windows by lowering the inside air temp quickly to prevent condensation.

Clean windows also help

The little heater of e bay will be crap as it's only 200 watts or similar.

I have the same problem. Freezing on the inside of the screen. I have no leaks and do use the air con but it's not enough to clear the damp air out so I bought a dehumidifier. One which can do 10L in a day. I leave it in the car in the garage with doors and windows shut for a few hours and it removes 1/2 a can of pop worth of water. Job done. Windows only freeze on the outside then. I tip straight from the cold tap over it and quickly use the wipers to clear if off. Job done.

I do have air con, I am poor specked but not poverty specked.

I have tried that but it still seems very wet in there from time to time,
I think I may have a leaky rear door, or condensation form the exhaust heat as the fish tank carpet is sometimes very slightly damp..
but I don't have the time at present to look..

The sponge is OK but not great,,I agree that I am fecked but I just thought
someone out there would have something that might unfeck me a little..

I think a squirt of de-icer on a rag would be a good strategy. I'll try it out, even though the car will pong!

Hmm you're as stuck as me then. Hippo's idea sounds good, but the de icer and rag is cheap and cheerful

.

I cleaned and polished my inside windows today, it did make a big difference to both visibility and the severity of the condensation.

I like the idea of the de-humidifier, but I have to tell you the Freelander is parked out on the road, some distance from the house, so I would need a battery operated one,,are there such things available??

get a 300tdi defender. clears the windscreen in less than 3minutes and interior is toasty warm within 5minutes.

Mains driven only I think. I only do it 2 or 3 times a year in the winter months at the most. Mine cost £40 from argos. If it's too small it'll do fek all.
