after looking and reading other brilliant posts of the few heroes restoring their series landys i'm giving it some serious thought.
my landy the one i tried to sell is in supprisingly good condition.the chssis was wax oyled and she seems is very good condition throughout.
my question is do you just dive in and start stripping thing off,or make a list of exactly what your going to do.
i'm not looking for a total nut and bolt jobbecause i'm crap with a spanner but to just tidy her up.
so basically chaps, where do i begin.

Make a wish list and try and do it as much as possible as a rolling restoration. If you can keep it roadworthy as you're doing it, it's not going to end up as a pile of bits as an unfinished project.

mine is SORNed for makeover at the mo, i have things that need to be done like brakes:eek: and engine and gearbox could do with a look at, after that time and money will dictate what else gets done.

If you have not done a full in bits stripdown resto before then dont, as said earlier esp if its your first time and your not so good with a spadgener, make a list and do a job at a time without rendering the car off the road, then your never far from putting it on ebay od the evening post if you get out of your depth or fed up with it.

my opinion would be replace all the brakes(not to expensive but new parts make a big difference) change all the diff, transfer and gearbox fluids, get the carb set up right(if its petrol) and the timing set right, thats all the driving side of things sorted so you can feel a difference,id get the chassis checked over, waxoyl hides alot of terrors.

now to get things looking good, clean or redo all the galvanised parts, clean all the lights and think about new paint, coach paint goes on very well with a synthetic paint roller and looks sprayed when finished

The above suggestions are right... make a list of what needs doing to make it usable.... do those.... then spend 20 quid on paint and a 4" roller... so it looks usable as well... then drive it and enjoy it... its a landy.. it will be noisey... it will let water in... it will drip oil on the drive... it definately will break down... but thats the fun ! I use mine as a shooting truck... I like it a bit rough... that way I'm not worried about the occasional altercation with a gate post or wellie prints on the roof !

If chasis is ok not needing welding them paint it good then add Wax oil.

Take out seat box and have a lookie there....

...Then bulkhead....

These item wil drive you crazy chasing the tin worn.

After that start with mechanicals.

Firstly fluids,

then get donk runnign sweet - coil plugs leads, then learn how to time and get mixture nice.

Then do brakes....

next G/baox out...

...good place to start is rear main crank shaft seal this stupid seal WILL cost you over £150 at some point better do now while seat box is out...

Thendrive for a couple of months to get to know her.....

Oh yeah...

budget for a **** load of tools...

..Just don't tell the misses...

Oh and find a plastic sheet to stick under it as they leak like thai hooker....

I'm doing a chassis swap on mine and I bought a £20 camera (so it can get oily and I won't worry) to photograph everything from every angle as I took it off. It's been invaluable 'cos the manual has some surprising gaps and I've ended up with a big pile of bits. I'd start with the easy bits (brakes, swivels, oil seals etc.) one part at a time so it never gets more than a day away from drivable.
