Hi Everyone

Been 'pishin' down on Skye recently and unfortunately more water seems to be invading my driving space. I've read all of the threads on sorting out sunroofs (mines got electric ones as its an 04 Disco). And tried stage one of translucent bathroom mastic around the edge of each sunroof. Did this under a tarpauline as have no garage, in a gale! - not the most stress free exercise, was left with white lines around the edge and no change to the water coming in (so shall remove unsightly **** later). Yesterday I found drivers and passengers footwells soaking - crap!!!

I had a look this morning at both sunroofs, with the headlining still in place. Shining a torch around the front one everything looked bone dry. The rear one had a glistening line around the seal and the filth around the edges felt dampish. I am getting a wee puddle by the back door - passenger side of the boot but nothing to what's happening up front.

Up front, water runs down in three places vertically on the windscreen two left and one right of the rear view mirror. The rear view mirror drips constantly creating a wee pond in the 4whd drive gear shift. The top edge of the windscreen has water running along it. The headlining is only wet on the passenger side section facing forward for about 6", there's no water appearing along the passenger door section of the headlining. Lastly the footwells - the passenger side is soaking along the door edge - ingressing in by about 6'' all the way along under the dash. Drivers side footwell is nearly all wet with water oozing (when pressed) through a crack in the rubber centre section of the carpet.

That's it! Sorry to have taken so long but monies tight and DIY ability. I'm hoping it's a windscreen replacement instead of stage two on the sunroofs, or worse a hole in the drivers side floor.

At this rate I'll be building a garage - any thoughts gratefully received.

Hi Mcd on Skye
If it's anything like mine (52 plate D11) it was the screen seal. Cured with bathroom silicone.
Back door, I just moved the lock & hinges inboard & that sorted it.

Thanks for that, I'm getting the windscreen re-sealed at auto glass so here's hoping...

What do you mean by moving the lock and hinges inboard?

I just marked the lock & hinges with a marker pen & put a line on the body as a datum before loosening the bolts. Then just pushed the in about 2mm & re-tightened the bolts. Means you get a closer seal on the door.

Yep you are not alone mine was the same Inverness has just as good weather!
I would say take the head lining out and have a good look. The big thing to remember is the head liner is water proof so lets the water run down and collect in roof console
(Get to the bottom of the road brake and you look like you have pi**ed yourself ).

If it all worked it would not be a Landrover.

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum but just read your thread with interest. I've had 2 Discos, both had the same problem but different causes.

1) Sunroof leak on a (At the time) new 4.0 V8 Metropolis Disco - both roofs leaked, Main dealer advised new roofs under warranty but then explained they would also leak !!
Solution - Duck tape on roof around sunroof edge - solved the problem (at least confirmed it was the sunroofs leaking!) - Black Duck Tape on a Black Metropolis Disco - noone any the wiser !

2) Second disco - same flooded footwells but cause was frozen up aircon discharge pipes - causing pipe to disconnect (Just at transmission tunnel) and then all aircon condensation ran into footwells on both sides !
Solution was reconnect - jubilee clips and being aware of the problem in cold weather.

Anyway - you may well be aware of above causes - but good luck anyway !

Just sort out the two seals and they won't leak. my disco sunroofs have never leaked but then I only opened them once a year to make sure they still do.:)

my passenger footwell was soaked on disco 1...
turned out to be a load of muck/leaves under the washer bottle holding the water and it then tracked down wiring loom through bulkhead behind the dash.. was amazed how much water was collecting from just tracking through..

Hi,
I suspect that the leak in the front is being caused by a faulty weld where the roof is attached to the front uprights.
Had this problem with mine. (2000 disco)
If you get the screen rebonded make sure you get photos of the weld each side and ensure that the person replacing the screen puts additional mastic over these welds.
I have had both of my sunroofs re bonded as well.
Can send you a picture of the weld that autoglass took when rebonding my screen.
I am happy to have a chat to you about this if you send me your phone number I will give you a bell.
