I wouldent advise chucking it in the back like some of the others have due to the weight in the event of a crash it will kill you very easily even if you have a truck cab or pickup as the bulkhead or roof wont take that impact, I have had a roll of mig wire rip rear seats from the hinges and hit the back of the passenger seat in a vw Passat when it hit a ditch, bonnet is a possibility and looks good but I don't find it that practical due to visability and weight , I have mine on a swingaway carrier as its secure, safe and gives more weight on the arse when offroad and wet roads ( before it was put there it used to get the back out on bends if you left off or braked in emergency )

I agree completely about the safety aspects. Not just wheels. any heavy unsecured object in the back has the potential to do serious damage.
My wheel is securely attached to the internal bulkhead, and impact bad enough to remove it would have to be pretty major.
In very steep precarious places, I wouldn't actually want a lot of weight far back, would much prefer to have it central, between the axles, and as low as possible.
Swingaway is ok, not ideal if you do a lot of towing, they can make reversing onto and hitching a trailer pretty tricky

Maybe for you that is the case.
But if you lived up a long track, with blackthorn growing all along it, and repaired with waste stone that sometimes has nails in it, you would get far more.
Average here would be two a year on the landy, maybe one on the car, and probably one on either the tractor or one of the trailers.

Blackthorns a bitch for punctures

On the back where it's meant to be :D

But if you could fit it on the bonnet on a freelander you would wouldn't you? Not only does it look cool as but it takes the weight off a door you may use quite often. Fender doors, especially the rear, aren't renowned for their strength hence the use of swingaways

Someone put up a pic of a Freelander with a wheel on the bonnet. It's on ere somewhere. the wheel gets in the way of road ahead vision.

Why would you want a wheel on your bonnet blocking your view lol......the rear door on the freelander is especially designed to take the weight of the wheel. :)

If I had a depender or series, I would have it mounted on a swing away carrier. :)

totally agree about swinaways being a ball ache to get trailers onto hitches ! only realised that recently ! its ok if your hitch is adjustable like mine as you can lower it though and I personally find weight on the rear good in mud and side slopes :)

Only ever restricted my view if I'm in a tight parking space, in which case if I desperately need to see the front left wing I just stand up lol. It's never a problem any other time

view with mine isent a problem its the tyre is so close to the hitch it makes it difficult to lift the handle/trailer to fit
