has any 1 got a rope i can buy as them on ebay look a little flimsey or can some 1 send me a link to a rope that is sufficent cheers

I just bought one of these (ebay item: 280314034045 ) looks like a nice piece of kit and comes with a pair of shackles too. I went for an 8 mtr one so I can get a good distance away and double up if needed.

spyderman to go back a bit i have just been reading that u use the pro-comp straps. the only strap of this type i have is a 20000lb one. is this strong enough for a recovery situation? my winch is 12,500lb but obviously i can use pulleys, etc, to increase the pull without adding to the strain on the line, so cant really compare it to that.

cant go wrong with them, designed for the job and nothing else.Used mine far too much.

not sure if i should get a 30000lb one aswell? i have a 110. aslo i put 2 jate rings on the back the other day but they bolt up so im thinking, do i need to put one hoop over it before i do it up? other wise i would have to double up the strap wouldnt i? or through the jate ring and then though the same loop. im sure that makes no sense at all but someone will get what im saying im sure.

Think i get what your saying. To attach the rope to the motor use shackles. the length of the recovery strap is a good thing, if its too long double it up. The best way of spreading the load is to use a short bridle strap bout a meter or 1.5 meter sounds about right.

and now i feel like a complete penis. so obvious. all this gear and i confuse myself with the most stupid thing! haha. anyway thanks for the reply mate. kick start my brain. i have a short 13000kg tree strap, that would be fine as a brindle wouldnt it. so now im sorted

I started off with the 20,000lb one, was fine until it got cut. it was always up to the job. I bought the 30,000lb version to replace it. Pro-Comp recovery straps or proper Ropes are the only thing I'll use for recoveries. Strops are for winching only, I won't attach one to my motor for a tow, they are way too aggressive, you'll just end up breaking things.

So. Um. How did u get down there! Haha

Nice little lane in Essex, came across a right hand bend with a slight side slope, looked fine. Started sliding sideways and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it, the mud was so slippery. I just ended up in the ditch, i could move forwards and backwards no problem, but I was just getting myself into more and more trouble. Took ages to get out of it, digging, jacking, sawing, winching, towing, Waffle Boards, the lot.

Well done! Good effort!! Seems we all spend more time under or diggin out our landys than in the frigging things. All part of the fun ay. And no matter how wrong it goes it always makes for a good picture!

I use the Damar straps.

Nice price on eBay and available in all the lengths I wanted.

Have taken some serious battering with no sign of giving up.

I don't snatch recover, and so I appreciate the solid nature of the strop - it's non stretch, so you know that when your car stops it's cos the stuck vehicle has stopped, gives you a direct pull if you get me.

Gentles the way with recovery, I like strops cos they're strong and compact, but at the end of the day anything will do as long as it's strong enough, so only buy rated gear.

Kinetic ropes are unadvisable, because they encourage snatching, which is often painful.

Cheers, sam

I dunno I don't think you havn't been stuck that bad. Somtimes the only quick way is a good few hard snatchs and done correctly is quicker easier than rigging up a winch thats burried under tonnes of mud/crap or indeed under water. Ask Spyderman I know he has been stuck Propperly at least once at Whaddon he has seen me drag him out and a Very very stuck Heavy 110 in a similar situation. Only problem with snatching is people not having the right equipment. Not having any sympathy or respect for their equipment, not clued up on how to share any force implied upon any equipment/component, not having rated vehicle mounts and or equipment rated for a safe confident extraction of stuck vehicle. Far too often we see idiots with green tree strops trying such manouvers and watch in horror and it because of this I say no to any strops being attached to my vehicle unless for winching. I agree pro comp ones are semi kinetic and not so bad but in my opinion you just can't beat a well looked after 24mm 8 meter poly rope or indeed a kinetic rope if used correctly.

When we used to compete there is no time for winches. All tow points are inspected and rated for recovery before the event. Get the rope on get the job done! Its always done safely and quickly and I have never seen any bad towing practise at any comps. But see many on a single play day.
