I would want something rated a bit higher, after all if ya have to tow with 2 vehicles then the forces are getting big.

My bow shackles are stamped 3.25 t .. they've been used successfully recovering a Defender with a Disco and a Defender ... the actual SWL (3.25t) actually has a high margin of safety. Admittedly a bigger shackle/rope will pull more, but is often also way larger and heavier than 'normal' tackle.

I try to balance size/weight/capacity with cost and frequency of use .. once you get into heavier stuff the cost seems to increase substantially, and you may never, ever need that load rating! If you ever do, then you could also just double up the recovery tackle ... ;)

True, i use lifting shackles at work with individual tests(painted) and trust em, cos ive seen them well overloaded by the lads on site.Straps seem to pop a bit more, for example the halfords ropes.THey are suitable for towing up to 4ton, but that will be on the road rolling weight, not recovery. The best thing to do is buy a tirfor!!

I'd love a Tirfor, but can't afford one, so have a Hi-lift and chains .. ;)
