The trees are past diagonal at the end so it must be over 45. You can have a lot of fun in those woods but I'm not 100% sure on legality. I know the road through has a name but as to whether you can go off of the track, I wouldn't bank on it. In the middle there's a bit everyone calls the blue tips. Not sure what it is, but it's big piles of blue stone. Now that is certainly past 50 degrees. I've only even done it once and I daren't do it again. It was the only time I've honestly thought I was going to roll over except the time I did roll. They are about 12 meters high. I tried to climb one and slid down backwards. I had a bit of a run up and got to the top. The only way down is the same way. I turned around on the top and set off back down. The back wheels came off of the ground and I thought I was about to go end over end down the stones, and then down the vertical drop at the other side of the path at the bottom. I just stamped on the accelerator and managed to get onto 3 wheels to the bottom. I had a mate almost crap himself in the passenger seat. I would never do that again. Next time I go past I might get some pictures. My tyre tracks are still there a month later so nobody else has dared to do it. Another fun part is where everyone rides mountain bikes and have built jumps and everything. I go uphill, not down so it's a good challenge to get over jumps the wrong way.
I'm glad not many people know or have the balls to get to it because I don't want attention drawing to it.

khaos honestly your the kind of knob were fighting against whilst greenlaning!

Come to a competition pay your money get your mots legal to play and you will find 80 degree climbs more than 90 degree drop offs i.e under cut and all the terrain you like and i promise you somone WILL drive them all in their 33 inch tyred open diff vehicles. PLease stop being a knob trying to be the TOP man driving illegally well thats what you last post sounded like.

Luckily i'm not in your area cos I'm the kinda Twot that will report you to the local glass rep and have your reg spread across the clubs so that when you come to your senses everyone knows ur a twot before you join.

We have it hard enough keeping greenlanes open and to be honest if the cc tro'd that lane there is NO argument especially from you and i don't think it hels us all as LZ members makes us all look like coonts!

Fookinell get with it man!

Some twots here loclly have been winching out gates last year 2 different occasions. Others from a local club were photographed by walkers seriously off pist stuck driving in a manner considered dangerous in Wales to which they are awaiting the bollocking and probably dismissal from ALL the local clubs.

Be smart and keep legal for all of our sake!

there is ALWAYS a better driver out there even the best driver makes mistakes and i'd lay money a serious association of land rover owners club driver would **** it and more in a sorted series 1.

The best driver i know has an old jeep old Ted he will put that thing almost anywhere driving skill is amazing also he has been driving the same vehicle for probably 40 years and knows it inside out.

Even at the nationals 33 inch tyres max open diffs std bumpers etc there was climbs that you couldnt walk down being driven up. Just because the reccomended angle LR stse it can be driven means nowt!

I pay most weekends at big off road sites and greenlane legally. I'll explain more that this place is not strictly illegal to drive down as it is the only access to a cluster of fields growing crop. Before, you used to be able to go down there any time no problem. The problems began when some ****s drove through the crop (and no it wasn't me, I'm always sure to cause no damage wherever I go, even places like frickley.) That is why a gate was put up. The place is on ordinance survey maps which is exactly what I would say if I was caught. I believe once you are on the road it is fine, it's just how you have to get there since the gate was locked. I'm not one for causing trouble by busting gates so I just go around it as I don't believe people should single handedly be allowed to block off a road. The road has a name and everything.

i was expecting a long drive up a hill not a small mound:mad:this is a hill me n me m8 got up and down and believe me it was scary looks a bit bigger than your one

Photo0662.jpg

That's not bigger. Mine is about 25 meters in total.

Do you know this thread is about what size tyres are best. I reckon jai has got it right with you.don't big it up prove it and get back to my original question and don't make it your thread!!,

choice of tyre will always cause much debate.at the end of the day its alldependant on what you want out of them there is no magical one tyre does all, if there was everyone would have the same tyres. as said learn to drive it properly first, then find tyres that best suit your usage of the vehicle.sorry farrar but got to comment on the b.s posted by khaos.you say you dont cause damage but your tyre tracks are visible a month later you think its okay to drive round locked gates, which obviously means youve driven off the track, and you think just because its on a map its legal to drive.your most definitely the sort of twot that gets the rest of us a bad name

ferrar tyres;

i'd go with insa turbos or diamonds with a maximum inflated diameter of 33inch note not tyre size some 33 inch tyres come out as low as 31. I would have an offroad set for comps association of land rover rules these are truly some of the best drivers about they cannot buy their way up the driving list everything is kept to LR spec and they drive the vehicles week in week out and know what they can do. All of them would laugh at this thead arguing about how steep you can climb because it all depends and it sounds so ameturish!

On road and green laning BFG all terrain money for money will out last any other tyre on the market. Again I'd go for as close to 33 inch as possible and have both sets on either wolf rims same offset as 130 rims or max offset'rims (max lock no rubbing) that way you know your vehicle inside out and changing to competition tyres will get the same lock same feel for your mota.

If your not interested in comps then good old 235 85 R16's BFG or a cheap alternative would be insa copies of BFG Track Edge tyre. bronco did some and were great but their issues were with the remoulding process and no longer made. If insa have cracked that issue then these are a great all terrain tyre I rate them highly!

If you want a set for just off road get some insa turbo special tracks at least 285s. My 285 maxxis tyres measure in at 35 off the car and 34 on it (obviously they get flattened at the bottom. My 285/75 maxxis are as tall as my mates 34s when side by side.

not legal for competition use with alrc regs tho. I'd rarther leave my options open join a decent club learn to drive the vehicle to its limits and keep it in a servicable condition than become another "yea I used to offroad I destroyed several cars pics of half dead disco or 90 buried at a pay an play never did any maintainance and eventually gave up" and mate you NEED 37 inch boggers and a V8!

On more than one occasion the yeehaa' pay and play "truck destroyers" have been upset by an older wiser trial driver who has put their standard vehicle through places the pay and play'guys could only dream of getting their kitted lockered caged heavyweight of a challenge truck lookalike to.

Learn to'drive what you have then upgrade pointless owning a ferrari unless you can drive it.

Why aren't they allowed? Not being sarcastic here, I'm seriously asking for info.

plus depending on engine and gearbox ratio's depends on how well your vehicle can turn large dia tyres. I'd say 33 inch is kinda max for std eng/gearing once over you will probably need to swap transfer boxes to get the high ratio correct for road use and then you have the problem that your low range is silly way too fast and its really noticable especially decending rocks when you want to go nice and slow. Believe me been there got the t shirt.

I run 37 inch tyres for the road i used to do alot of recovery work and marshalling at comps. I run 32 inch tyres for comps my ratios are bang on for the 37 inch much working out on paper and a transfer box swap and diff ratio swap later its good but when i fit 32 comp tyres low range is really really low speed and high range is good for about 45mph flat out. Believe me its not just a case of bolting on bigger tyres! You will lose drivability in low box similar to those series motors fitted with RR diffs awfuly fast low range spoils it completly! Then you have to consider upgrading shafts and diffs at about 1k for the front its not cheap. Alternative is to not drive so hard again drivability or spend every weekend changing diffs shafts. After a couple of weeks 1k almost seems worthwhile. Mine is by no way perfect but it suits my needs.

I would suggest joining a local land rover club probably only 20 quid a year this will teach anyone to ignore the Bull**** spoken on alot of forums and dispell any myths by those wishing to pretend to have been there. Watch out for the old boys smoking pipes driving old series 1's these guys have probably been doing this for donkeys years and will laugh in the face of any person with lots of pointless bling. After all you can bull**** alot in life nobody can bull**** experience.

land rover were never fitted with them as std fitment. I hear you all screambut some were fitted with 900's which they were but this is not recognised as std unless on a forward sontrol. Plus you would'nt be at any advantage because your steering lock will be limited as the tyres are not allowed to rub the radius arms.

Jai,you certainly know your land rovers. I'm going to stick with my 33x12.5 at the moment and see how it goes.there's so many people with there own ideas.:D

Not quite, a One Ton was standard with 900 x 16 too.

You could always buy a Roadless if you fancy huge tractor tyres.
