Today I changed the Transfer box oil and both front and rear differential oil. Smelly stuff! Also re-greased the prop shafts front and rear, put enough in to force the old dark brown grease out.

Finally arrived at the point where the Disco II is now serviced on all the checks/replacements in the haynes manual up to the final page. Well all except replacing brake fluid and brake lines. The brakes themselves have been recently changed before I bought the car, so going to put off that part for awhile longer.

The next thing on my list to tackle is the surface rust on rear chassis, it is currently not to bad to my estimation however it will need treatment. Going to research the options available to me a bit further but current thinking is:

1. Wire brush and sand down chassis back to bare metal.

2. Apply 2 coats of Hammerite Rust Beater

3. Put on a top coat of Hammerite

4. Waxoyl or Dinitrol

This all make sense?

Good idea. It's my long term project to totally sort the chassis out.

I fitted passenger side trackrod end, welded some patches of chassis, stripped handbrake, fitted output seal, refitted handbrake, and surprise, the new spring I had bought to replace the old one, which had broken causing severe judder, also broke while I was stretching the shoes on... Had to put an old spring back on, and hope the other new one isn't going to break too!! It's a long fiddly job, lying on back, on the gravel...

Kip and I spent time Sunday afternoon taking the dash out of betsey so that we could repair my dodgy vent flap , still isn't closing properly quite but it was a chance to lube up both vent mechanisms so that they open and close easier ..nice and toasty now inside and no more icy draughts yay..:D

Got some aluminium plate sorted for sealing up the king cab, got the roof, got new engine mounts (again) bigger ones!

Looked into getting a little stick welder too

no good having dodgy flaps is it.

Washed it and steamed it off underneath.

Maybe find the oil leaks now:rolleyes:

moved along swimmingly with my 300tdi engine rebuild.
whilst putting the last bits together i discovered one of the injector ends was still lodged in the bore of my new fitted cylinder head, 3 hours of swearing and a broken slide hammer, the little piece of pain in the ass is still there.
this evening could consist of a discovery bonfire!

Swearing at it --

Thanks, looking at manufacturers now.

A wholly new problem appeared this evening, on turning left I got the three amigos. Out came Hawkeye and see 1 logged fault on ABS of: 4084 - HISTORICAL Sensor Right Hand Front (intermittent sensor output during driving, broken wire).

There does not appear to be any play what-so-ever in the wheel bearing and wheel rotates both directions freely without any roughness. Therefore, I am going to spend tomorrow looking and checking the speed sensor with a multimeter to see if it is at fault. Still, least it has given me a new mini project to investigate! :)

you wont allways feel any play or roughness with a bearing thatsworn enough to effect abs sensor

Eek, hopefully it is not the whole hub assembly that needs replacing. Looking at the haynes manual it looks fairly onerous. However, since posting earlier.. I revisited the collection of invoices that came with the car, I notice one scribbled entry from 2 years ago that the RH and LH front speed sensors were cleaned and reseated. The fact that it has come up again now, does sound suspiciously like it could be wear in the bearing.
