haha yeah :p missing the top of the gearstick obviously so weighing up my options

Thinking I either buy a defender one or use the one of the ones from the series and make it fit

Made a couple of brackets to keep the handbrake cable clear of the transfer case and sharp edges underneath the seat box, the X-eng disc handbrake causes the cable to locate differently, only problem I found with an otherwise fantastic bit of kit :D

Sourced most parts for a auto to manual conversion, Replaced the auto pedal box with a manual one.

Successful day!

Changed therocker cover gasket slight weep .
It was a bit of a bugger, the foam in the bulkhead gets in the way and there is a semicircle section in the gasket that is awkward to locate right at the back of the cover.

The main leak was a hole in the turbo outlet pipe spraying all over the exhust manifold .
On further inspection I had to loosen the turbo clamp in order to move the turbo pipe away from the manifold . Job well done no leaks no smells anymore horay

changed oil and filter, got the washers for the sump plug and filter from JSF4x4 in Norwich and neither washer fitted, is this a sign of things to come they do not seem as good as they used to be all money money now a days!!!! mine had small copper, they gave me small steel and large copper. We shall see.

Just had an up date.... head gasket has blown.. but there is a corrosion pocket in the head face, were the water jacket from the block meets the head (no cross over to the head at this point). So will drag the spare out of the shed tomorrow and have a shufty at that... get it cleaned up and take it over to the man.

Yea myn had that corrosion too, i think its just down to the gasket design

Cleaned the head face up... looked good.... took it to the man and compared it to the one that was on the engine... much better.. so he will swap them, new gasket.... jobs a gudun. :D

the corrosion was terrible on the old head... small triangle between the cylinders... why they make a hole to match it the gasket I don't now !! just lets the water at the aluminium face if the head !
It must be due to the unique way Land Rovers are designed

Finished the gearbox install, seat box with s/steel fittings all round. Fitted seats and drove it up and down drive for ten minutes :)

All good! So then fitted all flooring back in again with s/steel bits. There were loads missing, the whole floor area is so much tighter now.

Fitted some rattle stop sheets to doors and seat box and cab roof, very impressed, got loads left so might go silly with it!

Taking the girlfriend and sister to London Monday for the day so temporary fitting some old luxury house carpet under the car carpets for the long drive, just took it out for a blast and it's oh so quite! Can have a normal conversation at 65 now! Had to drive with the window open tho so I could hear the v8 :p

Routed a 1.5m USB cable from my stereo into the cubby box, no more pulling the iPod cable out of the stereo to hide it, also cleaned it earlier
