The bit thats worrying me is the fact that they did 3 sniff tests and 3 compression tests that came up clear. They rekoned the headgasket was ok.
It was only the fact that I got fed up and told em to strip the engine cos I was fed up with the overpressurising. When they stripped the engine it was found that the head had been shifting on the nylon dowels and that the HG WAS gone. They then skimmed and pressure tested the head and re-fitted it.
Now suddenly the head is cracked TWICE and they missed both of em. I'm starting to wonder just how much knowledge engineering companies have.
Bit like the "VW/Audi group approved" Mechanic my mate took his audi 2006 A3 2.0 TDi 16v to get a cracked head sorted.
Bought a head of fleabay for £250 allready pressure tested (cheap) new one from VAG would have £1100. He then decided it would be a good Idea to get it fitted propper so off to said VAG "approved" mechanic. Comes back 2 days later running sweet as a nut and cost £400 in parts (headgasket, belt and tensioner) and labour. On sunday i get a phone call from my mate "can you come tow my car home? Engines died after making a queer noise." So goes and gets him drags it back to his, open the bonnet first port of call in regard to described symptoms was the cam belt cover. "Wheres the belt? must have snapped." "Oh hang on there it is down round the crank pulley" It was still in one piece and hadn't failed so checked the tensioner... slack and the retaining nut hand tight. So now the valves are ****ed (both cams locked up) and haven't got the head off yet to see whether we've got any cracked pistons so the whole engine could be totalled.
