I've been out between the showers and had a look at my electrics. I still can't quite see why the wipers would go for the mechanic who came out yesterday but not for me. Aside from the possibility of an intermittent wiring loom fault, part of my problem may be that the fuse holders have a lot of grey powdery build up. The radio and the heater blower seem to have this problem. I've given them a squirt of electrical cleaner and jiggled them about in their sockets in the hope of making better contact. With some of them, the plastic bit of the fuse is getting brittle and coming to pieces so I've put new ones in. Maybe that'll aid reliability.

Me head gasket has gone:(
Picked up a 3 hole elring from my local indy and have made a start but rain has stopped play.
It's blown right at the front below the thermostat housing and the escaping hot gasses have melted the wires going to my electric fan:mad:.

In the S1...Reattached the nato hitch. Removed the rear side bench seats. Removed centre seat & replaced this with a cubby box ready for the holidays

On my Hicap clocked up some miles now

Fitted an in-line thermostat to my S3, and it worked a treat - it now warms up correctly and holds temp.
It's a Perkins 4.203, and the thermostat housing would not come off for love nor money so I bought a different 'stat, for an old Renault but just the right diameter, and stuffed it into the top rad hose just where it comes out the stat housing. A very easy fix, and I got the idea from a Rover 75 forum - seems a regular thing on those cars where the stat is very difficult to reach if it fails. I should say mine didn't appear to have a stat in at all before, so no fear of it failing shut.
I also bought a very cheap infra red thermometer on ebay, which was useful to check the temp that the radiator and housing etc were reaching and confirm the stat was opening. Best 6 quid I spent this week.

So, because I were bored of playing tennis ball with the lab I decided to swop out the hair filter fer a nice new one. Diesel filter next if I can be arsed.

May have to inspect the S1 speedo.
The miles go round correctly but the speed takes time to wake up.
So it’s not the cable or drive so has to be internal.

Well I've changed the diesel filter, the thing runs and doesn't leak. I also fitted new rear quarter protectors anorl. I have the stuff to do an oil service but its now raining so I'm back inside with a cuppa.

Bugger, around 7pm last night (Saturday) was just doing the final 60° tighten of the head bolts and the last one (number 18 of 18 in the sequence) has stripped the thread,I suspect, in the block rather than the bolt.
I need the truck for Monday morning first thing so I've carried on assembly with fingers crossed it will hold until I can pull it all apart and hopefully helicoil the block. Started raining again as well. Happy feckin father's Day my arse.
