Yeah, well that's three of us who think the same. That's good enough for me. TBH, by the size of that hole, it must have been like that for a while, but the Mrs mustn't have noticed it as it gradually got worse. (It's her daily drive for work) Not being in it for a week or more, it was more noticeable for me.
 
Int that what regular maintenance is for :p
:rolleyes: :oops: I knew the box was rusting quite badly, creating big flakes. They must have been worse than I thought, cos when those flakes have fallen off they've left a cavernous hole. Can't remember a box going like that before, they pipe usually goes just before or after the box.
 
I've bought some polybush ones. Give those a try and save faffing on with the big vice and sockets :rolleyes:
 
Fitted a new battery last week. The cold spell saw off the old one. Except the new one, which had been sitting in my garage for 15 months was much the same as the old one in terms of starting ability!:mad::mad::eek:

Bad news, but you can't just leave a battery standing. Did you charge it regularly over the 15 months? :(
 
Sadly not. Looks like I’ll take the hit on this one and buy another one... :(
Not sure if one of the new type battery chargers could resurrect it. Be cheaper to buy a new battery probably, unless you know someone with one of those chargers.
 
I’ve got a normal charger which does fast and trickle charging. I’ll try it on the current (no pun!) battery on trickle then if it’s still dead, I’ll shop for a new one.

The exhaust box managed to last the week :cool:
Bought a new box and rear pipe off Paddocks. Only took two days to come. Got that fitted

The rear pipe had the expected Britpart sticker on it. The box is made by GT exhausts

Interestingly, the two local motor factors could not provide me with an exhaust. Their listings only showed the system for the 300Tdi that has the rear box perpendicular to the chassis rails at the back. Mine runs parallel and the box is just behind passenger seat.
The end of the box is very close to the hanger bracket.

Finally fitted the Clutch Spring Mod to reduce the titanic effort needed to depress the pedal - 5min job, but taking the soundproofing out and all the carpet, then removing all the crud in the footwell (grommet missing from foot box right in front of the wheel) took an age. Anyway, much better now....but the ominous groan from the bellhousing when clutch down isn’t getting any quieter!
