I've been and had a play with my new fuel pressure gauge. I got one off Ebay with loads of pipes and connectors and one of them fits the td5 fuel system thank goodness. I have well over 60 psi with the pump running. No wonder this pump and regulator give the engine a bit more pep than the old ones. Meanwhile, a propos of last weekend's breakdown I sent my ECU off to a firm whose website boasts that it can mend ECUs in 2-3 days. They've obviously bought some new customer relations management software because I get loads of automated emails off them. One when it arrived, one when it was assigned to an engineer, one when it was scheduled into the workshop and so on. Most recently though I got a message saying it needed to go for special investigation and would be another three days. I thought it might not be so simple. I'm blowing ECUs faster than I'm blowing tyres at this rate.
 
News just in: My TD5 ECU is on its way back to me, apparently. They say they've mended it. It'll be interesting to see if that solves the problem. In the meantime I did a little bit more wiring. I've run a fused, ignition-switched live from the ignition to the box under the driver's seat so I can use it to activate some relays to switch my Dashcam on when I start, and make sure my inverter is switched off when I stop, so it doesn't run the battery down if I forget to switch it off manually. Not exactly rocket science, but fiddly threading of wires and conduit through holes. As usual I've put a dab of solder on all the crimp-on connectors so they don't vibrate loose.
 
Had a bit of a 'funny' with the fuel filler flap on my D2 V8.

The flap wasn't latching properly and the 4mm pin from the release solenoid was coming through a 10mm hole in the body allowing it to move around, enough to release the flap.

Looks like there should be a bush in that hole, so I used a Heyco blanking plug with a hole drilled in it to do the job.

Works a treat.

There is a 'Buffer Kit' ALR8770 which contains the two rubber buffers for the flap and what appears to be the bush. I've ordered a kit to check that is the case.

The ECU was waiting for me when I got in from work. It looks even more shiny than when I sent it away. It works too - the car started after a bit of spinning of the starter and it runs and drives. That's better.

Typical, when you say you aren't buying LR parts to the wife that turns up. Damn hard to explain it's a new pair of shoes.
 
Just "installed", sorry I've just stuck on the top of the dashboard a little display unit for a tyre pressure monitoring system, the type of senders are the ones that replace the valve dust caps. Not for any particular reason, I just fancied having one. Just have to see how it goes. It's got a small solar panel on the top which charges an internal battery, so no trailing wires .... for now.
