wish I could find this vibration. think I'm going to end up refurbing both axles and props before I cure it

I have a vibration problem also which is driving me nuts. Both I and my Landy guy who does the major repairs can't work out what is causing the vibration. It comes in around 50 to 60 mph then goes. It feels like a UJ type of vibration. It happen after I had the clutch fixed but not sure if its related. We have had the transfer box out and checked. All seemed fine. I have changed the front prop shaft. Changed front wheel bearings and ball joints. Tried running it with a different set of wheels on. Jacked up each wheel at a time and ran it to see if I could see any vibration or if the wheel was buckled, but all seemed OK.Stripped the front Diff all seemed fine. I tried running it with the rear prop shaft off and tried it with the front prop shaft off Vibration still there. I think it is coming from the front axle somewhere. I'm going to try removing the front shafts then running it to see if that makes any difference. I suggest to my guy it might be the CV but he didn't think so. I don't know if you can bend a drive shaft or CV joint.
 
I tried fitting a new radio and doing a couple of other jobs but I could see my Defender was in a stubborn mood and did not want to be tampered with today so I gave up on it.
The new radio doesn't work, no sound. Did manage to fix the reversing spot which I buggered up the other day.
 
Fixed the rear wiper which was as susspected siezed in its spindle. Now for the washer jet thi k the pump might be toast on it though. He ho just another tinker session sometime
 
Tidy'd up the garage after painting the landy last week then decided to get my old rear axle on the bench and start removing the halfshaft's and diff, i want to keep the diff as a spare for the front as its a 10 spline :)

Priced up a head gasket and water pump kit for a K series freelander engine and bought some coolant for the 90 that is being prepared for the horrible winter that is coming! Or should I say is here! Anybody know who sells radiator cowling anti shake bolts!
 
Lifted the bonnet to see if I can spot the leak after driving into work and found another leaking lift pump. This is getting stupid now. I'm changing them about every 4 months. Anyone got any opinions on me putting a blanking plate where the lift pump is and using an inline electric pump instead? Am I likely to cause problems? Over or under pressure? Does the pump need to be there to hold anything in place like a cam follower?
 
MOT day, considering we had all the carpets and centre console out to fit new LPG tank brackets, it did well to pass.

Advisory on an oil leak, probably the oil light switch again.

Adjusted my wheel bearing and rear breaks. Then thought I would investigate an old cb radio cable. Gave it a good yank, and it snapped off nicely. Just too the other end out of the engine bay. Started putting my dash back together and snapped my speedo cable in the process. Wonderful. No speedo until a new turns up.

Did attach my new (old) cb to the dog grill and awaiting new cable and stinger. Plus awaiting new exhaust after the old one snapped off.

Much snapping has happened

Have you checked the swivel pre-load? That would be one of my port of calls.
 
Nothing so simple as wheel balancing ?

Wheels balanced and tried with another set of wheels to make sure it wasn't a buckled wheel. It feels more like a bearing or UJ type of vibration. I have changed the front axle as the previous owner bent it. I now have a Salisbury but I kept the outer parts as my Defender is LHD and the Salisbury was RHD. I'm wandering if it might be a bent drive shaft or CV if its possible to bend them?
 
Found that it could possibly be due to my NSF wheel bearing so that's getting looked at now. Hoping I can sort it or sling the one in from my spare hub for now. That should hopefully see me through till payday when I can order a new timkin
 
All washed and polished and waxed, all fluids checked, tyre pressures, headlight beam adapters on all ready for another French caravan towing adventure on Friday :D:D:D
