Changed all oils and filters on the Defender........but why is it that however hard I try, prepare well, have everything to hand, loads of paper, rags etc. I still manage to make a complete mess of the garage floor...not to mention transfer box oil up the sleeve!!!
Next time I'll do it!

Got this second hand head I am rebuilding to replace mine. Just wanted to point out a few marks and get some opinions?
There are a few chips of metal stuck to the cylinder section around the valves, some as little dips into the head and some as slight raised sections.

Also there looks to be some scoring between cylinders 2&3 in the centre, and some pitting on the head as in pic one. Its on the cylinder bit and around/on the little triangle bit to the right on the head face (pic 2). (excuse the dumb explanation, I don't know the technical names)/

Is this head good to put to use or is it scrap? I was covered in oil when I got it so I had no way of seeing these marks until I started to clean it. I was told it has been resurfaced and pressure tested, went back on a landy then the gearbox failed to was stripped for parts. I am yet to see if its warped, need to get me an engineers ruler.

went to kent and back with my D1 and 16ft trailer to pick up a kia sportage  completely uneventful. going down near bath tomorrow so if any of you are between bath and peterborough give the blue D1 with the trailer a wave

went to Bath with the trailer today and found that my lift pump had decided the engine bay needed showering with diesel so 2 hours later and £30 I had sourced a new one and fitted it. that now the second vehicle with fueling problems after going there the last one was a tilt bed scania to the rescue

fitted a drop plate to my tow hitch and collected another 2 cars. it tows so much better now.
just got to remove it for the weekend so I haven't got a ground anchor

Fitted a snorkel to the disco in the morning and spent 4 hours freeing up the difflock lever! Tomorrow's jobs include putting the centre dash back after bypassing the immobiliser spider, replacing a rear bump stop and trying to get the cb working ready for a trip to Wales in the afternoon. This is after yesterday's fuel leak and new brake pads all round. Never a dull moment!!
