When I was an apprentice I was told always put the best tyres on the front. (Only ever worked on car mind) And my mate (A tyre fitter) says put the best on the back.
Guess everyone has different opinions.
Try to keep all 4 roughly the same nowadays.

i always thought it was due to over/under steer with the new tyres.
better to understeer with the new ones on the front than to over/back end kick out
front wheel drive cars yes i agree, but on a rear wheel drive 4x4 then on the rear.but as you say, each to their own.

just used my old disco to tow my small`ish trailor full of more junk to our tip,
then done a 2nd run with my 18 month old washing machine (piece of crap)
as it looked nearly new I cut the power cord off, to let the tip men know it does`nt work !!!!
Changed a washer on the radius arm, stuck new wellers on and changed my military bumper for a civvy one without a dent in it. Just gotta refit my bullbar now
Yup, has been the road for a while now. Got some wellers off a mate so I got them fitted today, just need painting is all
Used it as a pikey wagon to weigh some scrap in
Decided it ain't coming to LZ10 as there's nasty vibrations n noises coming from underneath/engine places... so the ultra rare Land Rover Passat will be in attendance
