Followed your guide to install them!!! :p

But yeah the replacement handle is a grab, so much easier, gonna get a family friend to weld up that rust so I can paint over it and prevent it happening again, I presume it happens when tightening down the bolt it scratches the paint then water gets in and rusts it? I'd like to prevent it.
You ignored my first piece of advice then.
DON'T DO IT!

It's a common issue with Freelanders but thankfully once the hole is sorted, the handle and number plate pretty much cover everything. I repaired one with a bit of steel and pop rivets as I didn't want to burn the paint around it by welding.

Sounds like the nut has broken free from the back of the bracket. Centre punch the head and drill it out, then replace with a nut and bolt most likely would be best.
Well what a total ball ache that was, I managed to replace the rusty fuel tank cradle with the new bars, I had to angle grind off the front 15mm nearside bolt which was just spinning as well as the old cradle itself. Then prybar in the new bars, never again will I try this, spent all weekend on it. I should of been a gynaecologist!

Haha! Don't learn if you don't try 😂

Ah pop rivets are a really good idea! might need to do that instead... Thanks!

Reconfigured rear lamps to put fogs and reverse down where they should be and brakes and indicators at proper height. Also now have 4 x sidelights with brake and fog to increase visibility.

These fit in the brake (old fog) holders to give double filament with only 1 mm or 2 off with a craft knife on the lugs.

Freelander 1
Being that it's up for sale I decided I'd be responsible and try it before it goes away with someone. It rewarded me by binding the calipers and broke the pipe. Today, it got a new pipe and a fresh caliper. Nice brakes! Ready to go ...again.

Freelander 2
Having now retrieved it back from JLR, I now know why it shakes. It's... the nearside input shaft bearing has collapsed! So, now that's been sussed it's a matter of not hurting it too much until that can get done, and I'm off to see my favourite garage next week so they can take a closer look. I think they just want a nosey - they heard 'Metropolis' and went wide eyed.

Got the dreaded whoose as i hit the motorway so looks like bumper off tomorrow for some new intercooler hoses. Ready checked the easy one but my luck aint that good lol

Went to forest walk with our dogs. The weather is warmer than it typically is in October here in Finland.

Earlier today did OWUT. In August 2021 I changed the VCU to a brand new GKN. Now 20000 km's and 3 years later it gives me 45 seconds using 5 kg weight and 1,2 meter rod. So no worries, it was around there when new.

I went with the Wildpeaks for the F2 😉
Fitted yesterday.

Switched out the front passenger door lock actuator on the F2.
Not as bad a job as I imagined… my advice to anyone needing to do this is to spend the extra 10 minutes and remove the external door handle also, then remove everything from the door ‘as one’, leaving the external lock cables connected to the actuator. Switch the cables from the old unit to the new unit on the bench.
It would be a hell of a job trying to dis/reconnect all the cables ‘in the door’ - and I imagine that is where people break things!

All working correctly now 😁

Took her for a long drive to Ikea still bedding in the new clutch, got about 100 miles to go, she lacks a little power with some blowby but hoping a few oil changes should sort that out looking to buy another motor for parts that broke on mine found a good one about 3 hours away so that's next weekends Job.

Mot’d it (yesterday)
First one in over 10 years!
Strange driving it on the road again. When I brought it I didn’t have an iPhone. I repaired it with a Haynes manual. I drove listening to the radio and not bluetoothing to my phone.

How times have changed. It took me this to realise how different things are in the last 10 years
