Headlining is actually quite fun. It's one of those jobs that so improves the car.
Takes a couple of hours to get the board out, an hour for the job, about £60 in materials, then a couple of hours to refit.

Use the opportunity to do sunroof maintenance, if you have one, and run any cables to rear.

Been meaning to do it for so long now, but it has got to the point where it really really does need doing, and yes I'll be giving the sunroof mechanism a good clean and lubrication, although it's pretty good anyway. I'll also re-route a daschcam rear camera cable that I fitted a few years ago, and possibly run a spare for a future audio upgrade (with reversing camera) that may or may not occur

Been doing if for over a decade. WTF fail it now!

Think I'm going to need a commercial sized tub of detergent to clean up the engine to find out where its coming from.

Hopefully not to many places :oops:

Have to say, I quite like oil leaks, stops stuff rusting and the pulleys are always nicely lubricated. I bet if I clean it up and stop the leaks, things will start breaking.

I suspect it's failed on environmental grounds.
Oil leaks that allow drips to fall onto the road can now fail the UK MOT too. It's all about reducing the impact of vehicles on the environment, especially refined oils which don't break down quickly in nature.
 
Today was fitting a new window regulator in n/s/f door along with a new (s/h) door lock. Central locking now works on four out of five doors. Just the n/s/r door lock unit to go!
 
Just got back from a 400 mile round trip to attend a christening this weekend. Managed to squeeze the contents of a 1 ton tote sack of seasoned oak firewood (+ wife, dog, suitcase, boots, wellies, coats, etc) into the back for the return trip.
Nothing broke, cruise control down the motorways at a steady 72mph, except where roadworks decreed otherwise. Averaged 34.8 mpg.
Relatives, all farmers, impressed by my freelander’s condition, mileage and ability.
 
Fitted new high pressure fuel pump, put everything back together, started her up and hey presto, no more smoke, just a nice steady idle. Thanks to a great deal of help from well known members on this forum.

Was it relatively easy - no problems?

Pretty good MPG for the speed. I've managed to eek 45 MPG out mine over a 285 mile trip, by keeping the CC set to 65 MPH.

It was ok. There's a special tool you need to get the pump off and you'd really struggle without it. I got the Sealy version and there was an issue with the support sleeve not screwing in very far (damaged thread on it I think) but the pump came out easily enough. Because I had bought a donor engine I had all the attached pipe work, so I just swapped it all over as one unit. If you check on my thread of Jan 31st you will see Arctic 2 posted steps with pics and Nodge and others helped to isolate the fault back to the HPFP. I started the thread with a video showing a lot of smoke, hoping it was an injector issue. The pump I took off actually looks in pretty good nick, but obviously the seals have gone inside.
