New brake pads fitted yesterday. Today a Land Rover Christmas charity run to Lands End. Great day!

Would have been a good day out. Unfortunately I've got the lurgy, so couldn't have gone.
 
I put in a new parking sensor which quickly stopped working. It’s part number YDB500311PMA and is a bit ‘L’ shaped The first one I bought is a different part number, was pretty much straight and didn’t fit. I bought it before removing the old one. And then I managed to break it anyway discovering that so couldn’t exchange it.
So the one I bought is the same as the one I took out and did work for a few days but the eBay seller is saying I bought the wrong one so is looking at being a stinker about it.
So the question is: which is the correct one? I am confused because as I said above the old one I removed is undoubtedly the’L’ shaped one and had worked perfectly well for many years. Opinions anyone?
 
Picked a broken slate off the windscreen! No damage done that I can see.
Looks like a flying branch landed on the roof of the old hacienda last night and broke a slate in half.
 
Sat in a car park for thirty mins until my 2006 TD4 decided it wanted to go for a drive again. This is the third time in 2023 that it has refused to do anything except light up the dash when the key is turned, (headlights, windscreen wipers ect work perfectly) but after looking uselessly under the bonnet, waggling wires and slamming all the doors and kicking the wheels it, for no particular reason, goes back to being the perfectly behaved and absolutely reliable Landy it has alwaya been for the five years or so that I've owned it? It might have got anoyed because I mentioned to someone that it had just ticked over the 80000 on the speedo?
 
Replaced drivers side rear door lock and door card. One was tatty and the other refused to unlock with the remote.
Cut slots in the boot side panels to allow for the cables and fitted them.
Also made this to cover the battery box in the boot.

I couldn't get it to fit while in one piece so decided to cut it on the RHS so I can make a flap to access the HV manual disconnect.

I've also cut a piece for the front and have it glued on and have glued on supports for the ends so waiting for the glue to harden.
Initially I'll just paint it black but plan to glue on carpet at some stage.

Looks much neater than mine, which has the back seats folded down, a big boot liner across the space, and half a ton of Labrador fur :)

The concept of the rubber mat is that it is a "carpet protector". However, I've found that in Freelander it is a destroyer. It traps moisture (OK Freelander wetness) and the carpet rots and the tie downs have all rusted to buggery.

We do have a genuine LR dog guard installed and 2 generations of wet Springers have been carted around in the vehicle, however, they are very choosey about where they travel, and will only go forward of the guard on the back seat - so can't blame them for the boot rot.

Not sure WTF we keep either the mat or guard in the car! All they do is consume KWH of battery life fuel.

I have the rear dog guard too and also wonder why I bothered. Think I just bought anything that was supposed to be for a Freelander

Not sure I fancy the idea of dog wee dripping into a 400V battery. 🤯

That is the sort of situation I dread 😬. My TD4 has been running so well the last 8 weeks after sitting still for 2.5 years while I was unavailable it seems unnatural.

The L shaped ones are the corner/ outside ones
 
They are usually reliable do you know whats broken
No, I am presuming it’s a faulty part they have sent me. It worked fine for a few days when I put it in then stopped. I had no problems with the sensors until this one stopped working and have only got round to fixing it now. I checked the others and they were clicking and I was disproportionately pleased when it was all working again. If the same thing happens with a replacement sensor I will have to rethink things.

Ah well, see… my ‘liner’ is a large fabric type thing, that supposedly hangs from the front head guards on straps (still there), and hangs from sucker-type things on the back windows, creating a lovely flexible ’box’.
Until said Lab ate the window suckers.
And pretty much trampled down the drivers side piece as she hangs her head out of the window at every opportunity when I get out… FOMO

It still does a great job at stopping the fur rubbing into the boot carpet.

But because the dog ate the suckers, it tends to move around a bit with her over time, and so ‘airs’ itself underneath.
So win-win, sort-of!

(In actual fact, I’m lucky - mine doesn’t have a damp boot at all - original tool box still there and no signs of rust at all)

When the rusted, gunked up lid on the fish tank in my Freelander is eventually opened, it will be like an Time Team archeological dig :D Gawd knows what will be found in there. Other than sludge that is.

Its an enigma (if that's the right word) my Broom....

Its tatty as. Carpets and fittings in the boot rotted out. Carpets in the front rotted out due to a (at least 10 year) leaking heater matrix. Back seat stitching has rotted away (and big holes in the front seats). Condensation dripping through out, headlining only held up by plastic trim bits, bodywork panels don't line up from repairs that must have been a serious whack before I bought it, various bits have never or intermittently worked since we've owned it ( that's 13 or 14 years and including LHR door latch), leaks more oil than the Exxon Valdez, has more clunks and boings than Big Ben on repeat, pumps out more smoke than the Drax power station - and these are the faults that I haven't learned to live with and forget...

But, it sails through WOFs (MOTs), is borigly reliable, hardly ever needs bits fixing (to be reliable and road worthy), will still return, as good as, 40mpg on a run, ferries me to and from work absolutely dependably, take tours round the country absolutely dependably - amazingly the AC still pumps cold (when I have nagging passengers cos I refuse to burn fuel just to keep cool) and the sun roof works perfectly (every time I press the button by mistake cos I don't use the sun roof in case it breaks). Plus it still look awesome when I give it a wash ;)

She's a good old girl Broom. I give her an annual service and every time I cut the ignition I thank her and tell her she's done well (I really do!). And she rewards me with her dependable service.

I am attached to my Roary. He’s a good lad and seems very happy at the moment. I am so impressed that after 2.5 years of sitting still all it took was a new battery and an oil change to get him merrily bouncing through the roads of Dorset again. Nothing new has dropped off, failed nor seized yet. I have just ordered another parking sensor so hopefully that will sort that out. Hope I’m not tempting fate….
