Just finished changing out the IRD oil - the dirty oil thankfully looked ok with no signs of ‘bits’ in it!
Sucked out as much as possible of the rear diff oil and refilled - wasn’t about to start taking the plate off to drain it all.

Realised how cold it was when I heard a strange noise and puffs of smoke under the car when I started it up for a road test, then realised it was the FBH kicking in / exhausting by front wheel. Brrr.

Cleaned an injector seat with the end of a garden cane. Kept cutting the end off with a fine tooth saw and it act like a mild abrasive. Took most of the day though.

Didn't do anything to mine, other than take a few tools out the boot. I spent the afternoon working on No2 daughters Toyota Aygo in preparation for MOT next month, and discovered I've got to do some welding before presenting it for the test. Why can't the Japanese build a vehicle that doesn't rust. Even No1 daughters Fiat 500 doesn't need welding, despite it being a similar age.
At least I'll get a chance to try out my new Euro torch I've go for my mig welder.

Went for snowy tracks last night. Had a moon and clear sky last night which makes it even more beautiful in the forest.

I'm so jealous. I've not seen snow like that where I live since November 2005, and by the next day it was melting away.
Rain and more rain is our winter weather here.

We (still) have proper Nordic winters here, even that I live in southern Finland. It has been -30 celsius in the northern Finland this week. This is also why we change to nordic winter tyres in around November here.

Ran over a socket on a main road which embedded into my tyre so now i'm on the spare limited to 50mph.
Hopefully i'll be able to find a Goodyear Wrangler HP M+S else it looks like i have to find £500 to replace all 4 tyres.
Oh, and to add insult to injury... i found out the jack wasn't in the car when i recently bought it.

Todays mission was to swap out the left front outer CVJ - the rubber gator had torn around the drive shaft - I figured a straight swap with a new replacement was going to be less messy and easier in the long run - wrong. What a messy job! The CVJ is not that old so I was going to put aside and clean it up and keep it as a spare. I could not for the life of me get to come of the drive shafts splines - as I wanted to keep it I didn't want to get too rough with it! So I made do with replacing the lower suspension arm - I'd done the drivers side one some months ago so it was pretty straight forward. Tomorrow I'll look at the drivers drop-link - I think that is the clonking I hear at low speed .

Be aware if you have an FL1 and still running all wheel drive, you’ll want even wear on all 4 tyres…

Today I finally fixed the parking sensors on my FL1 TD4. I bought a replacement sensor last week before I took the old one out, sort of straight like the pictures on the thread I was using, which of course was the wrong one. I cleverly broke it before I could send it back. So I ordered the correct one, sort of ‘L’ shaped like the one that actually came out. I used the 16mm drill technique to get it out, btw, which worked well. So plugged it in, fitted it back and happy days!
So now I can listen to the beeping instead of using the rear steps/tow bar clanging method which, although satisfying, apparently is frowned on.
It’s only taken me 3 years to get round to doing it. Spurred on by this success, tomorrow the Gates thermostat is going in.
Probably.

Nah, it's a Freelander 2 (updated the profile now i have a half decent pic)
Ended up getting 4 new Pirelli Scorpion Verde M+S that seem really nice.
Annoyingly, after spending £550 on tyres, the battery died too. Amazingly it seems this is the first time it's had the battery changed since 2008, so can't complain really.

Been to Carlisle and back today filled to the stop then again as I got home
83m @10.34L = 36.45mpg
my van would have done 60mpg
progress I suppose but admittedly I am disappointed it wasn’t doing 40mpg
