Was replacing a snapped bracket that runs down some aluminium extrusion on a bed that raises up to the roof of the van in a camper yesterday. It was a mad day all sorts going on and we were running late, the customer had already arrived to pick it up and was pacing round the office.I always put a bit of wood between axle stands and any metal part and have a piece of tyre cut to the size of the trolley jack.
Supported that corner of the bed with an axle stand while we removed the strap (used to raise the bed), remove the old bracket remains, fit the new bracket and thread the strap back.
In our rush, we didn't think of protection, no wood, no cloth, just rested the bed on the stand... needless to say a big chunk of the melamine surface snapped off the ply. Feck!
