installed new rotors, carriers & pads after finally (after at least a year) diagnosing a noisy off-side front brake. Seized guide pin for the win. Inner pad, rotor & carrier were toast. Been living with a seized clutch release fork for about 2 years - savings in petrol over the past few months allowed me to pay to have it sorted & a new clutch put in - gear change was still tight - that slave bracket is poor. took off the flimsy slave bracket & threw it away - installed a lightly modded bracket with more rigidity & gear change is back to normal.

Now all those noises and distractions are gone I can hear that cluck from the rear off-side over uneven surfaces - thinks it's time for new bushes all round.

Cheers
Simon
The OEM brackets are bad but the aftermarket are worse.
Make sure the arm is lubricated at the bell housing

Christmas is here

I put the roof back on as it looked like rain.
Strange how I have a really nice D4 but I prefer the FL.
Now if only I could find a soft top within driving distance...

Went out to wash mine (I was bored) and discovered the nearside tail light cluster smashed. Just the clear plastic cover part, but I'll have to replace the whole damn thing at @£100. :(

Posted in the wanted section if anyone can help.

Got my 20k miles cylinder head ready with anaerobic sealant and proper torque/sequence. Still waiting for some parts and I will change the HG for no reason at all.

SORN'd her, then discovered a flat offside front tyre, and a matching flat battery.

Sod all I can do about the tyre right now, but I hooked up my trickle charger to the battery. Unfortunately there wasn't enough charge left to engage the charging circuit, so I hooked up another one too. Still wasn't enough, so I wired in my wife's Peugeot battery and voila, after about 30 mins there was enough charge to engage the charge circuit on the trickle charger.

Now I have to track down a coolant leak I thought I'd already sorted...

serviced mine today, the oil filter was a P.I.T.A.it`s been four years since it was last done.
just to do the bottom ball joints, front springs, outer drive shaft boots, & fuel filter.
then I have to start on the decking & the decorating.that`s not the car by the way.
saying that I wonder what it would look like decked out in the back.:rolleyes:o_O

Been away for far too long - hope you're all okay?

My poor Hippo hasn't had as much use as it deserves. I still have not replaced the differential seals - on a to-do list once I've finished rebuilding my MGF! Hopefully not much more to do before it goes for bodywork and paint :)

On a positive note, the Hippo continues to run really well, and it got a good wash yesterday! Now I need to get it dirty again... the lure of the off-road and green road beckons :)

Good to see you Rob.;)

Here's one for you.

Have you considered converting your FL1 to electric power, when you're forced to give it up? You'll get free access to the LEZ and be cheaper to fuel too. I'm seriously considering this conversion myself, if I can find a suitable donor FL1 to convert.:)

Nodge and me are very much thinking along the same lines. I'm on the lookout for a nice K or V6 with low miles and a dead engine, ;)

How you getting on with the spheres Rob? They always put me off buying another F due to their unobtainium qualities, although they do give a great ride.

And you!

Good idea... but I am going to be patient for now, as decent batteries and second hand motors will, I hope, get cheaper as the EVs enter the second hand market and get crashed... But I am also guessing that demand for electrification of older cars will also increase: when will be the time to take the plunge I wonder???

I haven't looked at spares and repair FL1s recently: last time I looked prices seemed to be on the up, but I guess the virus may have altered that somewhat?

For the MGF, this is the OSR, just rebuilt:

The front is all done, and I need to get onto the NSR next. Waiting on a replacement LH PG1 driveshaft/differential seal (TRX100060) which should be with me by the end of the week :)

I've replaced all the hydragas spheres with re-gassed replacements from Ian and Dawn. They are not alone in offering this service, and there is a chap in Wales who managed to get the original Dunlop factory nitrogen filling rig if you want something completely standard looking. The rubber inside the spheres generally lasts a very long time, although I did have to replace the NSR previously when fluid started to leak past the lower rubber membrane. I have squirrelled away a few spares, as this car is a long-term ownership proposition (I've owned it since new from 1996). Never had a head gasket failure, 115k miles, always raced and tracked at every opportunity ;)

Brake rebuild next, then body shop for rust repairs and re-spray.

Not very Freelander, but the explanation why there are a couple of deferred jobs on the old girl.

I am also increasingly tempted to get a set of 16x7" modular alloys, as they now can be had with the correct centre bore :D With an ET35 and a wider rim, they'll fill out the arches rather better than the standard wheels. And yes, that makes me a tart! lol
